We booked our snorkel with our concierge at our hotel. Having snorkeled previously in key west (3 years ago) and not having the best of time, I was a bit hesitant to snorkel again, but we had a great time and was pleasantly surprised. We did the first snorkel in the morning, their “breakfast” snorkel, its cheaper than their later snorkel times and we preferred it before the heat of the sun really gave its full effect. The complimentary breakfast provided was bagged muffins, cereal cups, milk, juice, and coffee, not really a fan of what was provided. Staff were friendly but not the most informative. We had about 35 people on our boat and did not feel over crowded at all. Overall, it was a 3 hour trip (9a-12p) with about 45-60min of snorkel time. Due to the recent storms in the keys which has been causing swells and more jelly fish in the water, they took us to snorkel in the gulf instead of the open water. We snorkeled at an old shipwreck which was about 10 feet below us. We were glad we came here, although it was still a big choppy it was not that bad (not like 3 years ago when I snorkeled in the open water) and because we were only viewing 10 feet below instead of 30 feet, the visibility was high, if we were to attempt to view anything deeper than the 10 feet, I don’t think we would be able to see much. Thankfully the staff shared we were at a ship wreck, if they didn’t share that, we would not know what we were looking at, but we saw the mast, ribs of the boat, and boiler room. There were plenty of different fish, not so much vibrant coral. Depending on your swimming level, you were offered a life vest or a deflated vest that could inflate if you need help. After the snorkeling, they had a complimentary open bar on house wine, mimosas, miller lite beer and yuengling beer. They had canned beers for $4 each, or unlimited top shelf liquor (no shots) for $20. The staff do accept tips. We felt we got the best of both worlds with the snorkeling about 2 hr boat ride.
