While some might never think to vacation in Wedgeport NS when "the popular" places are such a draw (think Lunenberg, and Halifax), we chose this small South West village for our week vacation and have zero regrets.
The museum is a meeting point for many locals early in the morning. They are free with their smiles and their answers to questions, and can seemingly open the museum too (if you find yourself before opening).
This isn't a National Gallery people. It is a small fishing village museum with speaks to the rich history of the industry and the infamous people who used to come here to fish the waters.

Once a manned lighthouse station, Big Fish Island is now inhabited only by great blue heron and osprey. (The lighthouse is now powered by underwater cable.) Picturesque for a boating drive-by; but if you're up for a rugged island exploration, see if you can get someone to bring you over from the Wedgeport breakwater. (Try Tusket Island Tours...)

Simon Leblanc offers a great and sincere tour of the traditional Acadian lobster fishery at great Tusket Island. His approach is honest, warm and humorous. Four hour round trip tour to the island, topped by Simon’ live acoustic singing and his homemade chowder ( fresh fish, scallops, lobster, etc.) that he cooks while retuning his guitar. No faux tourist-trap stuff here. Highly recommended, super value for price. Will tell my fiends.

A simply fantastic experience! The crew is knowledgeable and engaging. The trip to the Tusket Islands is unhurried, with lots of time for questions and explanations about the local area and fishing. The chowder is the absolute best we’ve ever had! (Would have taken a photo but we were too busy eating). I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone, and will likely go again next season with friends and family!
