What travellers are saying
- houstontravelingfoolHouston, TX3,905 contributionsThank you to the Moore family for sharing their island - and this wonderful New England clambake experience. It was the perfect way to spend a sunny and clear afternoon. The one-hour narrated ferry ride allowed us to see Boothbay Harbor and hear interesting facts about the area. The food was fabulous - and way too much to eat in one sitting - but we all finished it, not wanting to leave a crumb. Our server was an amazing young woman who gave us instructions on how to open our first-ever lobsters and, being the quick learners we were, we opened them perfectly and loved eating every ounce of lobster. A hard boiled egg was part of everyone's meal and we learned that they put an egg in while the lobsters are cooking and when the egg's done so are the lobsters. So interesting! There are picnic tables spread out on the island and everyone just picks their place and then the servers start bringing the food. EVERYTHING was amazing. I can't say enough about the whole experience. If you're anywhere in the area, I encourage you to just DO IT. It'll be one of the highlights of your trip as it was for us. Happy eating.Written August 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Laura H1 contributionA fun way to spend the evening while away. The show was fun, dinner was great. The only complaint we all had was that the temperature in the theatre was chilly. Otherwise we had a wonderful time.Written September 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- YotaPowerGuilford, ME1,000 contributionsVery well kept island, and the staff was top notch! We spoke with Jay and Steve. We also had a great conversation with the island manager. Didn’t catch her name, but her lunch recommendation was spot on for a place in Southport Harbor. The tour and conversations were great and full of information. We walked around some and enjoyed the fantastic weather.Written September 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kate S1 contributionWhat an experience! The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor is a gorgeous venue, and the show was outstanding! On this night, we saw local favorites and enormously talented musicians the Boneheads playing Van Morrison. What a night! People were literally dancing in the isles. Truly, this was one of the best concerts I have ever seen! The venue is large enough to accommodate a crowd but still intimate, no matter where you sit. I've also attended the Gingerbread Spectacular on several occasions and it is a festive and impressive artistic experience - made more special by the amazing holiday decorations designed and implemented by the Opera House. This place is a gem!Written February 1, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MarshaOrlando, FL170 contributionsThis 1 mile hike is just about perfect for a beginner hiker, a very young hiker, children [take the Story Trail] and anyone who wants a leisurely walk. We took the main hike around the pond and then took the children's story trail and enjoyed both. If you are a seasoned hiker, this is probably not your style and the Boothbay Region Land Trust has many more appropriate hikes for you.Written August 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Teri MQ49 contributionsAfter having visited large aquariums throughout the US, the very small size of this one initially shocked me. Yet, there was a plethora of information and hands on activities for young and the-not-as-young. We touched baby sharks, came face to face with lots of sea creatures, and talked with experts doing research. The pier allowed our 9 year-old to pull up lobster cages and see close up the soon-to-be-released baby lobsters. The equipment - rods and worms - gave him lots of practice fishing which it turned out he really liked! The grounds are great for walking and seeing the harbor.Written September 29, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lee E13 contributionsIt's hard to get there without one's own boat. But it's a magical place with unspoiled nature and fascinating historyWritten July 5, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Terry SirokyMarietta, GA200 contributionsI visited Boothbay Harbor for the third time in five years. It is filled with friendly, lovely people -- and I found two of them - Ed and Susan - at the Wharfside Gallery. In a walkabout I did one day in BBH early this month, I walked into the gallery only expecting to browse. I left having a wonderful feeling in my heart and beautiful artwork of Ed's already packaged and ready to ship home!
Both Ed and Susan are incredibly engaging and know so much about the area. Both of their artwork conveys the beauty of Maine. I am thrilled with 3 prints of Ed's which beautifully show my 3 favorite places in Maine -- the lawn view from the Topside Inn in BBH (where I stay), Monhegan Island (where I've been twice and was heading to..), and Acadia Natl. Park (where I've been twice).
My conversation with them was friendly and easy-going. You come out of their gallery with 'new friends', not to mention beautiful artwork. Ed even threw in a smaller art print of his of the Burnt Head Island lighthouse! What a treasure! Within a few days of arriving home, the carefully packaged artwork arrived via USPS in perfect condition! Included was a lovely note from Susan as well. I can't wait to get them framed and hung up in my home.
I highly recommend having the experience of not only meeting & talking to Ed and Susan, but more importantly taking home some of their artwork which will forever hold your memories of your visit once home and far from magical Maine. I'll be back...thank you for your wonderful artwork and hospitality!Written September 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We ordered the sampler plate from the truck, and everything was very good. We added a brisket sandwich which was okay, a little dry. The salt potatoes were the hit with the beer. Would go again.Written September 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Nancy TChattanooga, TN16 contributionsFour childhood friends went to Boothbay Harbor, May 30-June 3, and we loved it. Many of the stores were just beginning to open for the 2023 season, and in fact, Abacus was not open yet. We stayed at Fisherman’s Wharf, where our balconies were right on the harbor. Two large sailboats were in the harbor, just off the balcony. It was great! We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this hotel, right in the heart of downtown Boothbay. And the hotel staff was wonderful….. very friendly and helpful — the housekeeping staff, maintenance staff, front desk folks — everyone!
Although we were disappointed that Abacus was not yet open, we enjoyed being in the heart of shopping. Our favorite store was Mainely Nautical, almost across the street from our hotel. Shop owner, Patty Sterling, has stocked her store with beautiful gifts, and she features mostly items from talented women…even a mother daughter team.
Boothbay Harbor was great fun, the flowers wer gorgeous, and we will visit again!Written July 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s not a full-scale museum but if you like history you will enjoy an hour or 90 minutes here very much. The staff is so friendly and full of great stories. It is free but they appreciate contributions, which we were happy to make. Among the items there are a very cool nautical lens, lots of old tools, maps, signage, letters, historical documents, furniture, records, and photos. We enjoyed our visit last week.Written September 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MarshaOrlando, FL170 contributionsLove, love, LOVE this park. You can swim, kayak, picnic or just bring a chair and just relax here. There are sunny spots and plenty of shade, to choose your "spot". Bring your leashed dog too. Bathrooms are also available. No playground for the kids, but who needs it when you have nature all around you. The whole part is a photo opp.Written August 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
