I do highly recommend the guided tour. It costs 10€ only and you get a 2,5hrs history lesson with lots of anecdotes around the construction of the olympic village in the early 30ties. Nowadays it is covered with most beautiful heathland and is home to wild horses, bisons and other interesting species. However, during our walk we weren’t lucky and didn’t see any of the (large) animals. There are numerous hiking paths through the heaths, but signage definitely needs an improvement. Most junctions do not feature any indication as were to go whatsoever.
