Will’s paintings are beautiful and breathtaking. Sites of Maine and the Hudson Valley in NY. The studio is on the family property and is a slice of heaven. He answered the many questions we had about his artistic process. We’ll worth a visit.

While driving on the Pemaquid Peninsula, I noticed a shingle with a watercolor scene hanging in front of a house along the road. After passing it several times, I finally went into the gallery adjacent to the house. What I found was a room filled with beautiful framed watercolor prints by the artist, Jan Kilburn. I wound up buying two unframed watercolors, which I then had framed when I returned home. There is a simplicity and warmth to Jan's works that echo the beauty of that part of Maine that I love so well. If you are in the vicinity, it is a must stop on your journey.

Typical farmers market open as I happened by. Stopped for some native blueberries, fresh tomatoes, and some corn.

Happened upon this one room museum while killing time before dinner. Also very lucky that someone was there to let us in, as access is by appointment only at the moment. The good news is that a larger site at the nearby Perkins Homestead is under renovation. Perkins was the first female US cabinet member, serving as Secretary of Labor. Under FDR she constructed the New Deal, including Social Security, the Fair Labor Standards Act and much more.

It was an easy stroll down to the river where across it could be seen the midden pile. Lots of trees and flowers in bloom. The history is interesting so read about it first!

Another year, another trip to Damariscotta, and another stop at Gifts at 136. It's one of the best gift shops/galleries in town.

This bookstore has a deep selection of local authors, guidebooks & history, as well as a very broad selection of other fiction and nonfiction titles. Also has nice trinkets and small items - got a great pair of socks & a few gifts for some children we were about to visit. The buyers have excellent taste in what they choose to stock and it all is displayed attractively. A great community bookstore!

If it's open, also check out the coffee shop through the archway - decent coffee & great baked goods.
