- Tweet15042 contributionsWe saw a flyer for this at our hotel and decided to make the trip up. It's deep in the woods with 0 wifi so make sure you have directions downloaded before you get there.
$25 for the family/car to get in. They have separate areas for males, females, yearlings, and cubs. They all appear to be well cared for. One of the yearlings couldn't use his back right leg. Not sure what was wrong with him, but it's a refuge so he may have come with a problem. The males weren't too interested in people. The juveniles were food motivated and playful. The females were also food motivated & some of them were doing tricks to get apples from the spectators. Almost like they were/are circus bears. Sitting up on their bums, front paws up, one sort of waved even.
The cubs were fun to watch. You can pay $10 to get your picture taken with a cub (They use your phone/camera to take it). They get people in and put really quick & they change out the cubs as soon as they see the cub starting to lose interest.
The gift shop has everything you could imagine.
If you're in the area and like bears it's a good stop. They have some educational signs throughout so you can learn more about bears in general.Written July 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Even with a big SUV it took 45 minutes. There are signs everywhere to make sure you go the right way, as there are roads that are for off-road vehicles only. Once you get there, you are rewarded with spectacular views. You can go all the way up to the top of the lighthouse for free. I almost made it to the top, my husband made it to the top. The flies are really bad here, even with leggings on, they were biting me on my legs. The gift shop is also really cool, and I found a great picture with three light houses we visited on this tripWritten October 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael P2 contributionsDidn't do the museum part but partook in the lumberjack breakfast that they had today and that alone is worth a 5 star. Neat experience, great food and cheers to those that put it on! If you happen to be in the area on the last weekend of the month (I think it's just March-October), stop!!!Written August 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Wifi available at the front where you check in along with fire wood and ice for purchase :) Staff was always very friendly as well!
The restrooms and showers were super clean and cleaned multiple times a day! - YooperMWHarvey, MI48 contributionsExcited to stop here. Looked interesting through the windows. But only open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, even though it's the middle of tourist season. Suggest calling first.Written August 6, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Shwah186 contributionsI think place has the best food and atmosphere compared to ask of Newberry. Very nice and the only place where you can dress up and not feel out of place. Informal is fine too.Written August 12, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
