This is an amazing drive! The whole area is gorgeous with tons of lake views, waterfalls, and cute towns. Our favorite stops on the drive were Black Beach, Palisade Head, Cross River Falls, Grand Portage State Park, and Cascade River Stare Park. These places were beautiful and not crowded. Some of the other places we stopped at, while beautiful, were just too busy for us to really enjoy as much. There are also other roadside parks and overlooks to stop at to take in the views!

Even though we only saw the last couple of minutes of it closing, the bridge is amazing! We walked across it, underneath it, to both lighthouses/channel markers on either side, watched it during all hours of daylight and lit up at night. So fun!
This bridge is very unique in it's construction, as the bridge part does not open in two parts and goes up on both sides or swing out out of the way; this bridge lifts the whole part of the roadway (bridge) up horizontally.
Hopefully we will be back in Duluth some day soon and we can watch a big ship go through.

I have toured many mansions and homes in my day, and Glensheen really stands out. The self-guided house tour includes many interesting details about the architecture and decor. Everything was done in fine detail, but it also looked like a livable, functioning home. I really enjoyed marveling over the fine details. The gardens are also quite lovely. Well worth the visit.

View from tower does not disappoint. Amazing views, the Japanese garden is a bonus and tranquil. Views from the pavilion are great too. Highly recommend a stop if in the Duluth area.

This is an awesome place to bring families and everybody else to see what makes the United States great. The port and the lift bridge, in and of themselves, make this journey worth doing. You can board an oar boat here as well as watching them coming and going. If it’s been awhile, the construction of the new hospital (Essentia Health has invested over one billion dollars) makes a dramatic change in the Duluth skyline. Helicopters come all day and night from remote parts of the North bringing people to this Level One Hospital which is incredible to watch. The hotels along the north shore of Canal Park provide one of the greatest views of the ships although, if you want a farther away spectacular view, head north to Two Harbors or Tofte and watch them out there in total darkness at night. We have visited here several times and there are several options for food here, we’ve struck out at Grandma’s Restaurant in the past, including last summer, we feel there location (right under the Lift Bridge) makes service and food misses. For better food options, move away from Canal Park, head into Duluth and little bit. Canal Park is good for casual dining. The lake walk is world class and the engineering against the brutal lake is understated as you walk along it. If you are from Minnesota, you know what a brutal place this can be; we actually came here hoping for blizzard conditions cause the lake is spectacular when it’s rough. Remember, it was November when the iron ore ship Edmund Fitzgerald sank in 1975 after leaving the Port of Duluth into one of those brutal storms. If you are watching your pennies, this is a great place to come as the hotels offer significant off-season price reductions. We had a great couple days here right before Thanksgiving and walked down to the Bentlyville Christmas Light Display. We loved it and enjoy returning for the three hour drive from Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota.

Once you drive over the bridge to get here, there is plenty of parking and easy walking access to the beaches to sit and enjoy the sound, sand and waves.

The free museum provided a plethora of insight into the present canal, ships of today and the historical aspects of Lake Superior vessel travel.

One of the finest "lake walks" in the country. It combines wonderful views of Lake Superior and the city of Duluth, with the iconic Lift Bridge. There are places for youngsters to play on a beach and throw rocks into the lake - which they love. There are separate paths for people walking and people on scooters or bikes. All of this is completely free. There also are horse drawn carriages if you want to splurge and like that kind of thing.

There also are many places to buy food, see artwork, a free small museum where you can learn about Lake Superior, and places to stay.
It's incredibly wonderful and free to walk as long as you'd like.

This is a must do when visiting Duluth. Yes there are many stairs to climb but it worked for me at 83 years old. Be sure to tour this boat.

Enjoyable for our small ladies group of 4 on vacation. Having an axolotl there was amazing! When I sent a picture to my 12 yr old whom is obsessed with them at the moment, she was SO happy! Otters were fun to watch. It was cool to see you had all the main characters of "Finding Nemo" except for Gill; that i could remember. :)

Great views of the lake and Canal Park. There's a Rose Garden with thousands of roses (go in the summer and you'll see many!) and then, closer to Canal Park, there is an amphitheater and some paths to the lake. It's on the Lakewalk so you can walk to Brighton Beach (on one end) or Canal Park (on the other).

Honestly, if you like gardens, you'll like this park.

Visiting Duluth for a weekend get away. Hotels in Duluth can be a little pricey. We found this hotel at a reasonable price. We were very happy with the hotel. Under renovation but clean and pleasant. Standard morning breakfast that was just fine. Very friendly staff that were trying very hard to make things easy and enjoyable. We would stay here again. Thanks!
