I would call this worthwhile museum a hidden gem, not because it is small or inconspicuous but because it is probably not well known outside of the area.
It is wonderfully eclectic with areas and activities for the kiddies, all kinds adult appropriate art and art forms ranging from antiquity to the present, a beautiful gilded age mansion, a planetarium and even a nice gift shop.
The 1PM public tour gave us a great overview of the museum's offerings. The very knowledgeable docent, whose name may have been Ellen, asked the group what we wanted to see. She did a beautiful job accommodating all of us.
We are looking forward to a return trip.
Parking was free. The admission price was reasonable.
Two words of advice. Hit the cafeteria earlier rather than later. By 2 PM, the selection had been largely depleted. Also, ask in advance which planetarium show is being offered. The one we saw was appropriate for very young children. We both fell asleep.

The "Rock" is the large arena where rock concerts, college basketball, and the NJ Devils play. Located in the heart of Newark, NJ and across the street from the train station. Very good sight lines, limited merch, and amenities. Decent vibe for a large scale arena. Parking nearby is not cheap, but accessible.

NJPAC is a very nice venue, we attended Ce Ce Winans on Friday 12/20/2024. Excellent performance and great acoustics. Parking is a horror! I prepaid parking inside Military Park directly across the street from NJPAC. Don’t park there, park anywhere else. If you have to walk 20 minutes from where you park you will have made a good choice. We waited in the exit line for 50 minutes before getting to the street. I will never park there again.

It was a nice evening for a walk up the hill to see this beautiful cathedral.

A very nice lady let me go in even though the sign showed only open to 5 pm on Monday. I got there at 6 pm

Interesting section of Newark with several fantastic Portuguese restaurants and bakeries. We loved the people we met - it was like being in Portugal.

This is a centrally located station for businesses in Newark, NJ. There’s local trains (PATH) as well as Amtrak and others and busses too. There are covered walkways that’ll take you from the station to many buildings nearby. Just watch yourself, especially at night, as there are a lot of unsavory characters walking around, as well as zombie-walking druggies. Fortunately each time I used this station recently, I saw police officers on patrol, plus there’s a police substation in the main terminal.

This was a beautiful stop for me to create a memory for myself. It was well worth my time and the words to describe how beautiful the experience was is undefinable. I felt so at peace there and I couldn't believe how beautiful the architecture was. Don't miss this beautiful place.

Situated right smack in downtown Newark center, this is one of the oldest parks in the city. Could call it vintage. Benches, greenery, across from NJPAC and underground parking, prices to be a great find. Great security with police station across the street. Many new High rises surrounds the area. Not Central Park, but adequate view and pretty trees.

This is an true hidden gem of the City of Newark. Let's start with the The Ballantine House, a restored home from the Victorian Era. It is beautifully maintained and actually allows a walk-through.

Next, the Dreyfuss Planetarium provides amazing shows daily and is connected with the Victoria Hall of Science which is a great collection.

Another Dreyfuss find is the Alice Ransom Dreyfuss Memorial Garden, located behind the museum, it is decent size and a good walk.

The rest of the museum is best described as a mini Natural History museum ... you can spend at least 2 to 3 hours enjoying the exhibits. It is worth the price of admission.

Decided to go late afternoon Saturday of Memorial Day week-end -it's a small museum but packed with information -since /i am Jersey and specifically Brick City (Newark) I thought it important to visit , It wasn't what I thought but it wasn't disappointing - opportunities for movies/videos interactions, simulations and karaoke ( I sang lead on " Hit the Road Jack" ) and there is Whitney - lots of Whitney fitting for the Newark icon . There were very few people making all exhibits fully accessible and we spent about hour and a half in this reasonably priced venue -which we felt was worth it
