It isn't necessarily on everyone's tourist list but this living pueblo is absolutely fascinating. Be warned that the website is a bit of a mess and suggests that it is not open; with the exception of certain festivals (which you can actually look up on the website), that's not true. We went on a fascinating tour given by someone whose grandparents live in the pueblo and learned a ton. It costs $25 each and we felt like it was worth every penny given what we learned.

We visited this museum on our Tauck tour of New Mexico. milling Rogers collected art works representing Spanish, Mexican and Native American Art. The museum has added to her collections. Some galleries feature permanent exhibits, others rotate. Fascinating.

Drove this road from Santa Fe to Taos and the views at times were spectacular. The road can be narrow and some cars want to blow you off the road but it was enjoyable.

We came for the Aspens but were slightly disappointed. The Aspens were sparse so we felt mislead by all the tourist articles. Best place for aspens is the stretch between Taos and Tierra Amarilla and the Hyde Memorial State Park in Santa Fe.

Beautiful historic church. The grounds are immaculate, and building lovingly preserved. Well worth a stop. Doesn’t take but a half hour or so. Unless you are like me, a person who quietly absorbs these old churches.

I enjoyed this - not quite 4 stars, but certainly much closer to 4 than 3. House is the main attraction, specifically the woddwork. In some instances, Fechin achieves almost a bronze like effect - cool.Examples of real craftsmanship abound. Found the art interesting as well, though as a painter he had one 'style'. Downstairs is sparesely furnished, upstairs is basically now. Still the layout and function of the place itself is interesting, and the admission reasonable for the 60-75 minutes you may spend actually moving through the house, reading explanations, etc. The receptionist gets special marks for expounding at some length on a number of questions I had at the end of the vist, and I also learnd they are planning a new supplemental gallery to exhibit more of the permenant collection - apparently there's a fair amount of non-Fechin material transferred over from the former art museum. Ample parking, but I coudn't find the entrance off the main road - GPS kept insisting the house was in Kit Carson park, 1000 feet or so away.

Taos has turned into a tourist trap, although if your looking for authentic jewelry for a low price stop at the information center located at the entrance of town. (No photo’s allowed)

About a two mile hike but you are starting at 10k ft, so it can be challenging if not acclimated to altitude. Really pretty views all the way up. Some forest, water, boulder fields, peaks. Arriving at lake view really opens up.

We spent three days in Taos, staying at a vintage airbnb that was built by an artist and has wife in the 1940s with the help of Taos Pueblo Indians. We were able to walk to some major attractions - the Taos Art Museum/Fechin House, galleries, shops and restaurants, including Doc Martin’s and the historic Taos Plaza, presently under reconstruction.

The Taos Pueblo was a short drive away as was the Rio Grande Gorge suspension bridge and west rim trail. Before arriving in Taos, we did a detour to visit Chaco Canyon, a stunning World Heritage Site of ancient Pueblo Indian ceremonial gathering centers, places of worship and residences. Amazing! The unfinished road that approaches the site can be rough going but it is totally worth the slow and careful drive.

Taos seems to be impacted by the same problems haunting other similar destinations: shortage of labor, housing prices that are unaffordable for many, inconsistent operating hours for some shops and galleries. Other than that, a visit to Taos is a chance to become a bit more immersed into the world of First Nations and those who are artistically inspired. We were so glad to have made the effort to visit.

This needs to be promoted more in Taos. It's HISTORY, not art. Excellent look at authentic life in earlier times.

If you're in Santa Fe, you should definitely take a day trip to Taos. On the way back, make sure you have time to stop here for the amazing views. You could spend a few minutes peering over the bridge or spend a bit more time and explore the trails.
