There is plenty to see and paved trials to follow along the river for several miles. It also includes Goat and the Three Sister islands. There are plenty of benches to rest if walking. If driving there a re multiple parking lots. This park is billed as the first state park in the nation. There is plenty to see and do. Allot of the attractions in the park are reviewed separately. Seeing the falls lit up at night is a must see. I would say you need multiple days to take it all in,Written November 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - F4981JCmichaelsVancouver, WA2,924 contributionsThis is a review of Niagara Falls, American side, "done on the cheap." I saw the Canadian side in 2008. In my opinion, the Canadian side is more accessible and is more impressive.
You can see the Canadian side from the sidewalk, as well as the American side too. To actually *see* the whole American side from the U.S., you either have to be in Canada, you have to take a boat tour, you have to pay to view it from a viewing platform, or you have to pay and go down in front of it. I've seen it from the Canadian side, so I decided I didn't want to get wet to see it from down below or pay to see it from a viewing platform. Granted, it's probably a fun experience, but I already did that years earlier on the Canadian side.
So, all I did was park the car, and walk around to all the view spots available for free, both off Prospect Street, as well as on Goat Island. It was a nice experience. Got lots of good photos, and maybe I should have payed to go out onto the viewing platform, and it would have given me a better view, but I don't regret it, since I was there just to see it, but not really experience it. I was just "passing through." If you are there to really "experience" the American Falls, then of course you want to pay to see it from the viewing platform, and pay to go down and see it at the base, and maybe even take the boat tour. But that wasn't *my* goal. I just wanted to see it and go.
I had a great time doing that. You can still see a lot without doing any of the other things.
