Comparing the wonderfully beautiful cathedral located at Plaza de Armas in Osorno to an old railway station - such as Gare du Nord in Paris - may sound blasphemous. But it is really not meant that way; on the contrary.

From the outside, the church's neo-Gothic architecture is spectacular in its interpretation of what a church tower and an entrance to a cathedral can look like.

Inside, the light is breathtaking. It is simply a space where one immediately feels a physical and spiritual well-being. The two times we visited the church, gentle music was played, which underscored the atmosphere.

There are wonderful wood carvings and other decorations that make it a delight to spend a long time in the church; with due respect for the true believers, whose mental breathing space one only temporarily visits.

This is where it's at when it comes to finding the produce from Osorno and its surroundings.
There are florists, fruits, seafood, food and drinks, butchers, second-hand clothes stores and restaurants here.
There is also a bus terminus that can take you to the small towns where the peasants come from every morning to sell the products they harvest or manufacture.
If you want to have a look at something as genuine and picturesque as it gets in Osorno, visit the Feria de Rahue.

A walk around Osorno will bring you to icons like this bull. I guess it represents the importance of the beef/cattle industry here. This region is famous for it's beef. It's a fairly rundown city, and you can see where it was in the glory days by the falling-down old buildings, some of which are well beyond restoration. It must have been quite a charming city in it's day.

This place was renovated a few years ago.
When that happened, all the heart and soul it had were lost.
If you eat at the top floor, you will be harassed by the promoters of eateries.
    The place is crammed.
    You had better avoid it.
