- Steve SPalm Springs, CA1,892 contributionsThe world-famous Calanches de Piana are an awe inspiring landscape of red granite rock formations eroded into fascinating shapes. Spiky outcrops rising 300 m above the sea level flanked by steep jagged cliffs dropping into the water. We did a challenging hike in the Calanques. Thanks to my trekking pole, I made it without falling. This is one of the most beautiful and preserved sites in Corsica. The landscapes combine green and impenetrable scrubland, red granite cliffs and turquoise sea. Breathtaking!Written October 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- VadimMurmansk, Russia34,995 contributionsThe beauties of the D81 road are usually associated with the Calanques of Piano. Undoubtedly, these rocks are impressive, but this is not the only advantage of this road. The D81 starts in Ajaccio and ends in the north in Calvi. I have not traveled from the Gulf of Girolata to Calvi, but judging by the map there is a serpentine and it is also beautiful. I watched the road from the bus window from Ajaccio to Porto and back. And I was happy that I wasn't in the driver's seat. His skill amazed me no less than the surrounding beauty. Driving a bus in such a serpentine requires strong nerves, composure and skill. I took a moped to Porto and tried myself as a driver on the road from Porto Ota to the Gulf of Girolata and back. Despite the speed of 30-40 km/h, it was scary in places! The road is laid along the traverse of the mountains. On one side of the mountain, on the other a cliff into the sea. Impressive. Lucky with the weather. The sun and a light breeze. With a strong wind, it would be scarier and less fun. In short, we must try! - Paulsy_56Melbourne, Australia24 contributionsWe walked down to the beach from Piana which took about an hour, not too hard descent. The entrance to the track is down the back of town (follow the cobblestone drain down), and is signposted near Josephine's restaurant (a must for drinks at dusk). The beach is pretty and secluded but a carpark nearby means it can be a little busy. Toilets available on the path from the carpark but no facilities on the beach. A bar just below the carpark was open when we left at 1pm. The walk back up to Piana was 1 hour 30mins.Written May 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Raoul RongenSittard, The Netherlands1,305 contributionsOne of the shorter hikes in the Calanches the Piana region but not less beautiful because you get the full view and experience of the beauty of the Calanches.
If you start at the football field you have an free and easy accessible parking place. We started at the other side where you can find the hike on google maps along the road. If you are early you can find a parking spot there but later on the day that can be problematic. If you tart there you have a steep path up right from the start. Beautiful to walk and already very quick you get beautiful views on the mountains, the rock formations and the sea.
Eventually we arrived at the parking lot I talked earlier about. From there we had to walk to the last part back along the road. Be aware for traffic there.
The walk was around 1,5 hours.Written August 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
