The virtual tour of Chechnya by Zarema from the tour company, Beyond Red Square, was excellent. Having followed current events in the region, it was fascinating to hear her perspective as someone who lived through the war and has been part of the progress in the country since. Especially interesting were the personal stories of what people have endured and how they have been able to move on and rebuild their nation and lives. The region is beautiful and Zarema's stories of the people and culture definitely put traveling to Chechnya on my bucket list. Being part of a small group of friends made the experience that much more comfortable and enjoyable.

I normally think of a park as a green space, but this is more of a lot of Instagram backdrops for photos. I was there right after a heavy snow, near the beginning of November.

You should definitely do this if visiting Grozny. It gives a great view of the city and the massive progress made since the wars of the early 2000s. The tower/observation deck is right beside the central mosque and so you can take in the main sites of the city from here. Entrance is 100 rubles/person and you take an elevator all the way to the top. It can be windy that high so dress warmly!

For those who know the history of Grozny as well as the great North Caucasus region, it is quite the sensation to walk down this boulevard. Everything is new and beautiful. In some ways, it feels like the "Moscow" of the North Caucasus. Grozny is a bustling city and you can really feel that here.

As in many places in Russia, the war memorials in each place reflect the sacrifices made by local people. This memorial is similar and presents the Chechen nation's role in WWII.

It is really big, and well organized once you figure out the order in which to go through the museum. The design of the building is unique, to say the least.

This is the oldest mosque in Grozny but recently renovated by local authorities. It was built at the end of Soviet atheistic epoch.
