- Bronwyn TAdelaide, Australia340 contributionsAn amazing sight confronts you as you emerge from the short path to the rock. The range of colours was distinct and the height of this natural phenomenon was impressive. You can climb to the top of the rock but the edge is quite dangerous as the rock is slippery and you are not to hang on to the protective fencing. Well worth the visit just for the photos.Written February 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SwisshenPerth, Australia2,323 contributionsJust a little further on from the Wave Rock is the Hippo's Yawn, when you see this rock formation you will see where the name came from. The car park fee will cover all three formations, the Wave, here and the Humps.Written September 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PrathaDenmarkDenmark, Australia98 contributionsLake Magic has some beautiful scenery and is unusual in that it is very saline. One does not seem to be able to get to it at sunrise and sunset as suggested unless one stays at the Caravan Park or the Lake Resort both of which were full when we visited. We were told we had to return the boom gas key by 17-00H or we would lose our deposit.Written April 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - deanwebb2016Brisbane, Australia306 contributionsSomething like 18 klms from Wave Rock. All bitumen road until the turnoff, then its a little rough, red dirt surface. Bit messy for the car, but easily accessible via 2WD car. Cave is a 50 metre walk from the car park. There's also 2 trails (1200m & 1700m approx) if you're feeling keen.Written May 2, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 5ue15Greater Perth, Australia78 contributionsDefinitely worth the climb. We view Mulak's Cave before taking the trail to the top of The Humps. It is worth the climb and great to take your time to explore all of the views and pools along the way.Written July 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FlyingdogturdPerth, Australia8 contributionsSpectacular, colourful countryside, especially in wildflower season.
Certainly worth a visit for a look see.!
Camping opportunities severely limited due to the shire installing containment fencing. Better to continue on to McDermid rock for more spacious camping sites.!Written September 9, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was not that busy (Sunday afternoon) and the pool supervisor was kind enough to put in a line so I had a private lane to do my laps. My son shot some hoops and my wife read her magazine in the shade. A few local kids were having fun in the [cricket] batting cage.
What an asset for Hyden! We were surprised that the Wave Rock Motel did not point this out more prominently. Certainly worth a refreshing visit after climbing Wave Rock and The Humps.Written November 25, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The 2 km road to reach the car park is unsealed but suitable for all types of cars. At the car park there are information boards that explain how these formations were created and provide data on flora and fauna. A short easy path leads to the rock formation, which, especially on a sunny day, stands out for its white color with pink streaks. Topped by a reddish crust, the white and pink Buckley’s Breakway is only a few meters high but offer a strong chromatic vision. In a process that lasted 30 million years in a context of tropical seasonal climate, the granite outcrops that covered the area lost their soluble elements and accumulated residues of iron minerals, forming the two layers of different colors that we can see today. The white kaoline clay is made up of minerals such as mica while the pink streaks are given by hard feldspar with sodium, calcium and magnesium. The red laterite crust above the breakway is instead made up of oxidized iron minerals. Although only a little over 300m long, the intensity of the colors and the shapes of the rocks outlined by water and wind offer excellent opportunities for photos. Also interesting is the wildlife living in this natural island among the farmed areas, even if it is not easy to observe. An interesting place to visit if you are in the Hyden area.Written September 23, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
