My family went for the Christmas event at the end of November. There were crafts, songs, cookie decorating, hot cocoa, and a visit from Anne. We got the chance to tour the house, hike the haunted woods, and learn more about Green Gables. My family loved seeing the house and seeing the book come to life.

The disappointment came with the gift shop. Apparently it's run by a 3rd party and it was closed. The nearest Anne gift shop is in Charlottetown, 45 minutes away. If you're hosting a big event with lot's of people, then you talk to your 3rd party and open up the gift shop! Even if you don't have every single item available since it's the end of the season, you still open up the gift shop and earn a bit of money. Instead, I sat in the parking lot and ordered Anne of Green gables stuff off of Amazon and it was delivered by the time I got home from my vacation. I didn't support your business and that doesn't seem right. I would have preferred to purchase from you directly.

When you are o PEI and you have no time constraints, take a ride up to Cavendish Beach.
The area provides a nice beach walk, and the red sand cliffs are a sight.

We visited the Cavendish Cliffs located within PEI National Park. There is a platform there which allows you to get a better view of the cliffs. The cliffs were magnificent! From the top, one can see for miles along the coast. Unfortunately, due to erosion, we couldn’t get closer. Nonetheless this is a must-see location on the island.

The buildings look quaint, but really it's just a bunch of stores and restaurants. They have a Cows Ice Cream, and a Cows discount outlet for their shirts and other souvenirs. The Anne of Green Gable's chocolates have some different flavours in their chocolate bonbons, so that's kind of nice. You can have a walk around, but it doesn't take very long.

We had some time to kill, and saw this as we were passing by. Stopped in for some go-karts and bumper boats. Nice little amusement park. Especially like that you can either buy a day pass, or just a couple rides if you're making a quick stop (like we were).

There is a small gift shop with a staff member taking the admission and telling you some history. Then you can walk to the original foundation of her married home. There is a church near by where Montgomery worshipped with her husband. Also a cemetery where you can visit her grave. It is railed with red flowers planted all over it. To find it, follow the stone path from the parking lot.

Except for visiting her grave, this was the least favorite historic stop for me.

We stumbled on this still active post office that doubles as an historical site. It tells the story of how the Ann of Green Gables author living in a small regional post office served a significant role in getting her first book published. It’s on the way to the Green Gables Museum and well worth the stop.

I will write this from my grandkids point of view as my visit was spent watching them enjoy themselves. The park has plenty of attractions and activities for kids. The water slides and pools were well kept and monitored and the rides were fun. I appreciated the fact that once you paid to get in, there were no extra fees for rides. Concessions were available and not too expensive.

Nice walk through the dunes, Cavendish beach is in the center and the trail extends east and west. Parallels the the Gulf Coast highway in PEI National Park. Nice wild roses and other flora.

We walked a few hundred feet out of the way to Cavendish Cemetery. That is the final resting place of L.M. Montgomery. It is easy to spot with large bushes and red flowers. It’s worth taking the side trip to see while doing the walk between Green Gables and the Homesite.

We have been here before, but it has been a couple of years. The displays stay the same and they don’t really change anything, but it was fine for us, as it’s nice to see the displays again.

We enjoy the 2way mirror, the Robert Wadlow display and the artifacts from other parts of the world. This was the first year the kids were somewhat interested. A good attraction for the evening or on a rainy day. It takes about 20-30 minutes to go through it if your looking at everything.

This was a great place to visit when we first arrived in Cavendish. They offer lots of free information to travelers, clean bathrooms, and a friendly, helpful staff.
