This was our fifth visit this year!It is only forty six miles from our house and it was a lovely sunny October day(it might be the last chance we get this year!).

We got fish and chips, walked, rested and then had afternoon tea,a perfect day out!

It’s years since I’ve been to Southend and on the pier. Took my two nieces (3 and 17) out for the day and it included a walk on the pier. Didn’t bother paying for the train as we wanted to walk and knew we’d only get near halfway with a 3 year old - a lovely walk on an unusually warm October day. I realise that the pier needs funds for its upkeep and it’s a small price to pay really but I was unimpressed by the lad in the pay kiosk who made us wait while he finished his text message and then apart from saying ‘£5’ didn’t utter a word.

We come here often, the woods are delightful, managed well and largely free of litter. There are two parks for children to choose from, a fantastic visitor centre which serves delicious food and drink, and a nature reserve. There is also a creek that runs through the woods and a golf course.

A fantastic place for families, couples or solitary exploration, whether walking, fungi hunting, bird watching / listening, there is something here for everyone!

Visited hadleigh castle for our engagement photoshoot and brought our Labrador along with us. The views really are incredible and online photos do not do it justice.

Watched 'When Darkness Falls' yesterday evening and enjoyed every minute of this spine chilling tale. If you enjoy stories and the interweaving of imagination and experience, you should enjoy this. Thoroughly recommend.

It's a lovely park but sadly has been ruined by all the "crap" hanging in the monkey puzzle tree, which incidentally is endangered! I hope the council dispose of it soon. This poor tree is not a memorial site, there are plenty of other places for that.

Iv just wrote a review, went back to edit & it's gone!
I was pleasantly surprised to discover East Beach 10mls from Foulness Island, but had to get a taxi £23 to get to the Island.
Walkers are not encouraged or assisted to get there...!
No. 9 bus from Kursaal, Southend to East Beach. Then no transport...
It was well worth the trip, but not the cost of getting there... A good Heritage centre is there & teas & cake in garden.
A Tractor Trailer ride to the sea wall & an interesting talk on the area... 8/10

The beach was stony but very clean and very accessible, and was right opposite the premier inn where we stayed.

We visited as part of a combined day with Southchurch Hall and the Central Museum.

There's a little cafe in the park just opposite which is a nice spot for a sandwich and a visitor centre with loos and a little shop.

The priority itself is very interesting, and yet again the staff member on duty today made it so much more so. Talking to her, we learned so much about the building and the history.

It's also set in a lovely park, and whilst it wasn't a summer day when we visited, we still got to enjoy the park - it'd be a great spot for a picnic in summer!

There are a couple of car parks near the museum that tend to be very busy on weekdays. However the Museum is right near to the train station. While there are a number of objects on display the key highlight is the Saxon treasure which was discovered in Prittlewell and recently returned to the town. It’s really well presented in a large central glass case with videos and information boards explaining whet you are looking at. Best of all there is an interactive screen which allows you to highlight individual objects and learn all about them and the way of life at the time. Fascinating to realise how sophisticated life was compared to what I had imagined with possessions from as far away as Syria. Highlights are the beautiful gold buckle, the sword and the lyre staff were really friendly and helpful and there is an accompanying guide to go with the exhibits.
