Had a great day at the races. Really liked the floor to ceiling windows in The Winning Post restaurant giving views of the finishing post on one side and the parade ring on the other side. Lunch was delicious, the lamb very tender. Enjoyed afternoon tea. Staff were pleasant and attentive.

Great visit. We have been here before, and they are even better. It is well laid out, logical progression if you go top floor first. Very interesting stuff, too many items for one visit. Staff are very friendly.

It is always a pleasure to visit here and at this time of the year there is the added attraction of Christmas products to browse.

As usual, we were most interested in the food hall and after trying some tasty samples we bought some excellent pork and tomato sausages as well as some very nice scones and mince pies.

Service was very good and the prices reasonable.

After too long an absence we returned to wonderful Millgate house and loved every moment of being pampered by Tim and Oz.
The garden was, as always a sheer delight, over the years we have enjoyed it at different flowering times.
The hostas and alliums were stunning.
The house had gained yet more wonderful pictures, silver and furniture and, of course, the breakfast was delicious and so beautifully presented.
    Thank you both so much

The Station is a very useful asset to the town and even on a November morning, it was very busy and demonstrates that point.

Although the range of shops is, understandably, rather limited (it’s not a huge complex), they are interesting and of a good standard. The central area is pretty much seating for the restaurant and the fact that it was absolutely full says everything.

At the third attempt we finally found this little church to be open - and it was as good as I had hoped. There is real history here and there has been a church or Abbey building here since Saxon times.

Part of the present church dates back to 1066 and there are lots of interesting things to discover. The first thing to catch my eye was the very old font, dating from circa 1100 and it was interesting to discover that its large size was so that a small child could be fully immersed during babtism rites.

Another interesting feature is a wall bench on the west wall which dates from times when worshipers were all meant to stand throughout the service, and only the infirm were allowed to rest their posteriors on the simple bench.

Also at the west end is a medieval stoup, or stone basin, which would have been used to hold holy water used by worshippers entering the church, a reminder of pre-reformation times.

Pride of place probably goes to the medieval paintings in the chancel which, although they have had some restoration work, date back to around 1250. They portray various messages from the bible and a helpful booklet provides an excellent summary of the various images.

In addition to these and other physical items, I liked the relative simplicity of this little church, as well as the beautiful and peaceful setting.

Booked a walking tour with volunteer guide on a very cold Saturday morning. Tom our guide was amazing, extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. Not only did he share a lot of information but we remembered most of it! There were 4 of us in our party and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. You just register your interest at the Information Centre and turn up 10.50am and away you go. History, facts, stories etc.Thank you for giving up your time especially on such a cold wintry morning!

South Durham u3a had an organised talk & walk at Foxglove Covert. Centre manager Carl is so full of enthusiasm for nature, environment, wildlife & everything regarding the centre. His enthusiasm sends you away re evaluating how you look at things. The walk was so interesting but due to the very strong winds we unfortunately didn't see a great deal of wildlife but we did spot a buzzard & a blue butterfly.
It is a super place so mush to see for both adults & children.
