Our tour with George was fantastic. My highlights were Sterling Castle and Loch Lomond. His knowledge of Scotland and
interesting stories made the day very special and enjoyable.

Graeme gave us a tailored tour, doing everything we wanted, and still being sensitive to our need to get back to the ship in time. He met us at the ship terminal, and gave us a lot of information about Scotland as we drove to Stirling Castle, made sure we got to feed the "hairy coos", played the pipes for us in a beautiful setting, brought fun props for photos, and took us to a traditional pub for lunch. We all had Scottish ancestry, and he gave us some interesting insights into clan history. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him, and definitely recommend him as a tour guide who clearly loves Scotland!

Excellent service and good communication. Despite the non-standard charter conditions, Flamingo accommodated us. I can only recommend it. The marina staff are very friendly and the boats in good condition.

I would highly recommend this family run business. We hired the boat and took the little crumbrae tour. Its was amazing. There was plenty of room on the boat for our 7 members and had a uncover area to not that we needed it. We were blessed with the most beautiful sunny day. John our pilot/skipper was full of knowledge and very helpful. We saw plenty of wildlife on our tour to. When booking the process was simple and straightforward and excellent value for money. I would definitely come back and do another tour. Thank you sea clyde for making beautiful family memories for me and my family.

The yacht (a Salona 40) was in great sailing condition, fully equipped and super clean.

The Instructor (Amy) for my 5day RYA Day Skipper Course was totally professional, exceptionally competent and patient … and also a very good cook! I found the course to be good value for money, with no ‘extras’ requested. I was also lucky enough to be alongside four other likeminded and friendly crew members.

The weather could have been better, but nothing else! Great fun and I learned a huge amount.

Thank you Sailing InTuition and Amy

I chartered bravado , the Bavaria 45 for a family holiday as the yacht has 4 large Double cabins which is ideal for my situation . The staff could not have been more helpfull, providing us with everything we needed to enjoy the trip, they even took delivery if our tesco order and stowed it onboard as we had been delayed .

    First class service !!

I’ve now done three courses with go west sailing. Day skipper, coastal skipper and a last minute mile builder. I had a fantastic instructor for my coastal skipper. He set a supportive learning environment. He challenged me but I felt safe to make mistakes with him and confident that I could ask questions and not be judged but instead supported. It’s because of the experience with him as instructor I came back.

I had the opposite experience for my ‘mile builder’. An instructor that was more concerned with gaining social equity through talking about his past careers and an alpha male leadership style that was autocratic, demeaning and unapproachable for learning. A few requests from myself for specific learning opportunities were over looked. For example I was asked to complete passage plans but these were not reviewed, discussed with me and as such I didn’t learn from doing this.

Unfortunately I had him for my day skipper too but he was changed half way through and I had a much better experience the second half of the course.

I have been told by other sailors, that it’s not the sailing school that’s important but the instructor your given and from my experience this is true.

Go west as a company are fine, easy booking, good communication etc. the boats are in good condition and well suited to sail tuition. The pros of a sailing school out of Largs are that the sailing area is stunning and ‘easy’. No tidal stream to talk of, all marinas are 24h near enough. Like sailing on a stunning big lake with little traffic. The cons are if you want to advance your career in sailing the sail area is too easy for the reasons above. You need a good instructor that will push your knowledge with hypotheticals.
