This site provides a wonderful insight into Neolithic life in Orkney. We found it breathtaking & awe-inspiring. Our guide provided a great deal of information that really animated our experience. We had been wanting to visit for years, and it did not disappoint. Do not miss this!

The views from here are lovely, with spectacular sunset photo opportunities if you are fortunate enough to be here when the weather is good. You can have a wee look at the comet stone while you're here, although the stones themselves are unfortunately inaccessible to the public. It's a smashing place for a stroll around, and it even has a couple of pokemon gyms!
When I was here, I found a whole ton of edible wild mushrooms growing, which was just incredible to find this late in the year. So, I'm giving it five stars. :-)

    Really though, it's lovely.
Try to go when it's nice weather, and bring a camera.

My favourite walk from our whole week in Orkney. Parking free at the literal end of the road! Fantastic cliff top scenery. Worth detouring up the headland after you set off from the car park for views over to Hoy and the Old Man. Some cracking sea stacks off the coast, sadly we had to turn around after Yesnaby Castle as it was getting too hot for the dogs, but would've loved to continue down to North Gaulton like we originally planned.

This is amazing. it is a huge site that is being excavated and there is lots to see. Do join one of the guided tours as you will learn so much more, and the enthusiasm of the volunteers on site is contagious.
It was really interesting to watch the dig happening before our eyes, and we werer lucky that one preson made an interesting find while we were there.

A really beautiful location (the photo on the left does it no justice) with three gallery spaces; one is the permanent collection and two guest collections. The permanent is great and one of the others was too, but I couldn't comprehend the third. Still a very worthwhile visit

Visited as a family and it was great. Some absolute legend has come up with a way to keep the kids entertained while the grown ups do the tour and tasting and it's genius. A little schoolbook with activities, a stamp hunt, schoolroom dressing up clothes and, at the end, a flight of different cordials to compare while we were comparing the beer - they loved it and so did we! Interesting tour of the brewery and a good shop.

Went here on our tour of Scotland. Really enjoyed the tour of the house. Marvellously kept over the years. Good value for money.

Yet another of the invariably fascinating, small museums connecting these isles & their people with their extraordinary history. They shed understanding & an often very personal light on what life was like here, all the way back. Thus museum’s very full of things but, for the bits which interest you, wholly absorbing. Not far out of the way, it’s well worth finding.

The battery is a remaining coastal defense location from WWII that remains very intact. If you are interested in history it will provide a lot of great points of interest. If you do not care about the history, then the views are well worth making the short trip from the center of Stromness.

Our thanks must go to Keith the ranger who showed us around this site and the stones of Stenness. We arrived and Keith immediatly captivated us with his impressive knowledge and skill of story telling. The site is interesting and the stones too, however it could easily be overlooked in the shadow of the larger Ring of Brodgar. My advice - see them both!

Stromness is the second largest town on the island and chock full of character. We drove through the (very) narrow streets, exploring and enjoying the quirky names. We drove all along the marina and pier and to the outskirts of the town. We found our way to the beautiful road circling the golf course where several gentlemen were enjoying a game on this stunning sunny afternoon. We drove along the ocean and beside the abandoned WWII batteries and “pillboxes”. It was fascinating to see them in such good condition after all these years, … and the views across the ocean were stunning.
