We originally didn’t intend to visit Cairnpapple Hill. It wasn’t on “the list,” but was visited to break up a long day of driving. What a surprise. We had to a place to ourselves, the view is spectacular, and we were reminded that the history in Scotland goes far further back than the castles, or even the Romans. As the on site staff member from Historic Scotland told us -“Cairnpapple Hill was considered to be ancient even by those who used it thousands of years ago.”

We arrived when the visitor centre was still closed however the inerpretation boards are very helpful and informative. We had a relaxing walk around the preceptory grounds and of the church across the fence. All very well looked after and fascinating to see the role it has had in Scottish history and the signs of the various changes set into the stone fabric of the building. We will retunrn to see the interior one day.

I visited The Korean War Memorial near Beescraig country park today . I had no idea that 1100 British soldiers were killed in 3 years ...236 of them were Scottish ! The UK had 60000 troops in that conflict ,there were only 45000 in the Iraq war.
It is a beautiful setting and in immaculate condition . There is a large lay by for parking . There is a bigger car park but the gate was locked

Nice soft play, plenty of parking and reasonably priced. Hidden away on the outskirts of Bathgate with friendly staff is always a bonus. Toilets are very clean and food reasonable. The menu could be more varied and catering for vegans would make it more ideal for menu choices.

Quiet and a great walk, can be windy at times due it being mostly open ground.

Been a few times and below a small list of what I've spotted:

Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Jay, Woodpecker, Roe Deer, Snipe, Curlew, Wheatear, Meadow Pipit, Dunnock,Various tits and finches, Cuckoo, Grouse. There's probably more to spot, best times to visit are really early or late.

This monument is a war memorial to the men of Bathgate. The monument features an obelisk surmounting a stone base. The base is decorated with the Bathgate coat of arms encircled by laurel wreath, while the obelisk is made of ashlar bricks. Two rough hew blocks stand either side of the memorial and have bronze panels embossed with a roll of honour. The memorial park has an information panel about how the monument was moved to its present location by the Challenge Anneka reality TV show. A lovely memorial to the soldiers of Bathgate and an interesting piece of trivia.

This monument stands in memory of the men of Fauldhouse district who fell in the two world wars. The monument has a three stepped square base, supporting a rough hew pedestal. Surmounting the pedestal is a granite platform decorated with a small column at each corner. Each of the columns are decorated Celtic rope relief and a flamboyant finale. At the centre of the platform is an Eastern Chritianity style orb surmounted by an Ionic style Celtic cross. The roll of honour is carved on all four sides of the pedestal and a separate panel at the foot of the base was added for WW1 and WW2 respectively.

Wanted to take the kids to a cinema like those I remember from my own childhood. This place was exactly what I had in mind. Worth the extra travel.

Reasonable prices for tickets and refreshments. Friendly staff. Comfy seats. Can't ask for any more.

This place need your support more than the usual chain cinemas, so please try and visit this place.

    Will definitely return.
