Lovers leap Saint Elizabeth has an amazing ambience and friendly staff. Not only does it have an amazing scenery it also has a restaurant/bar. Although I didn’t go there to eat I did get a chance to try their jerk wings which I paired with a red stripe light delicious 😋.Lovers leap definitely gives you island vibes and I will definitely visit again. #travelwithlala

The drive from Mobay to Accompong takes you through many parishes and towns and is very scenic, so if possible , stop and take pictures along the way. The area is stapled with mountains full of lush greenery . In fact, it’s post card worthy.

You must be very intentional to visit this site, but I must say that it was worth the 2.5 hr drive from the resort. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the Maroons, showed us crops being grown on the land by residents such as dasheen, castor oil , and turmeric , spoke about the future plans for the territory , as well current needs of the community .

We arrived to Accompong around 4 pm on a rainy afternoon, so we did not experience the cave ( I believe if we arrived earlier this would be included) ,but the lack of the site visit did not diminish or lessen the experience .

Overall, the tour took about 1 hour, and along the way we observed residents, visited the local museum , and at the end of the tour purchased fried chicken and rice from the local restaurant (very tasty meal) . We observed the local cemetery , learned how the land and available natural resources were used to defeat the British. We also saw a sample hut that is modeled after what the Maroons use to live in, pieces of limestone rocks, listened to the history of the treaty that led to sovereignty, and felt connected to the land and history being disclosed to us by descendants of the Maroons who are actively preserving their history .

The community needs upliftment. They still do not have running water and depend on tourism to some degree in addition to local agriculture, which over 80% of resident partake in some form.

The island of Jamaica has so much to offer from an eco-tourist perspective , don’t let this opportunity pass you by . Be sure to wear appropriate shoes such as sneakers or hiking shoes . The path is very rocky.

Visiting Accompong was an experience that my family and I will never forget !! And, I had a teenager with me on the tour. I wanted to plant a seed of history in his mind, and foster the importance of knowledge about the history of our ancestors. This was honestly, one of the most memorable parts of our vacation, and we had many great moments throughout our stay.

Please be understanding that this community is remotely located, and residents are actively preserving their history with limited resources for others to experience. A lot of the history is experienced through the land and is oral, along with the archives located in the museum.

If you are looking for bells and whistles, this is not the tour for you! BUT , if you want and can appreciate an authentic, unfiltered countryside , historical experience - look no further .

    Recommendations :

I would have loved to have seen and had the option to purchase souvenirs such as jewelry , local provisions such as fruits and vegetables being sold by local farmers, abengs, T-shirts… being sold to generate revenue as well as add add to the experience.

Additionally, a pamphlet with resources in the area, information that captures the history, inclusive of dates and the history of the treaty and Maroons . It would add a great finishing touch.

OK since the entry fee is just $800J - about right. Pools and "stream" are in decent shape, and the cool stream is great with that heat. But almost all other features (games, trampoline, swings, etc) are unusable.
    The GoKart was working.
The changing room, at least men's side, was OK.
We called ahead to check, and brought our own cooler with drinks, and picnic lunch.

Our birding adventure with RAJ tours was beyond excellent!!! Woldy drove us in his air-conditioned van that we felt very comfortable and safe in. Deceita and Tashia's birding skills were on a par with anything that we have seen in operation anywhere in the world. Not only were they experts in finding birds by call but their knowledge of the history and culture of Jamaica seemed almost limitless. My husband is not a birder but is an outdoor enthusiast, I was a professional ornithologist for my whole career, they satisfied both of our interests. And the fact that they picked us up in Negril and drove us to Bluefields was super deluxe eliminating the stress of having to rent a car and drive ourselves. This is the second time I've gone birding with Deceita and she again completely impressed me. The RAJ team "spend countless hours dedicated to the preservation of natural resources in the area, and ensuring the community has access to basic needs such as water, shelter, education, food and jobs." The perfect combination of effort and passion.
