- J MSanta Monica, CA5 contributionsWe came during the off season (July) so it was just the two of us on the tour. We were picked up from our hotel in San Ignacio and driven to the ruins. Our Guide. Bemas (not sure on spelling) was awesome! This was our favorite tour of the trip purely because Bemas was so great. He was kind and welcoming. He also had extensive knowledge about the Mayans and the site. After the Mayan site we stopped at a local restaurant where we picked our lunch. I had the black soup which tasted exactly like chicken noodle soup. My boyfriend had a pork dish and said it was delicious. We then drove to the falls. It required bit of a hike down, there were some stairs, not too long of a walk but it was a bit of an exercise. Once there, Bemas gave us tips on how to swim closer to the waterfall. You are swimming against the current so be prepared. We had fun jumping off rocks and into the refreshing water. We were told we could stay as long as we wanted (probably since it was just the two of us) but once a large youth group showed up we decided it was time to leave. We still had a fun time swimming. Then we changed into dry clothes and were dropped off back at our hotel. - Ma P1 contributionCaracol Maya Temple was very impressive. Worth the bumpy drive for sure. Perhaps not many tourists go there because of a longer drive. We felt we had the entire area for ourselves (along with the howler monkeys).
Our guide, Dimas, is an exceptional guide with a wealth of knowledge of the archeology and history of the site. He's also a keen bird watcher and well versed in animal and plant life. It was a holiday and all the locals seemed to have taken the day to hang out at the river, so we opted out of the Big Rock Waterfalls. Not a big deal for us as we were pretty tired after all our climbing.

We had the chance to have the car and driver just for the two of us. The driver was an extremely knowledgable person, on everything, flora, fauna, politics and, of course history. But not just what he could have learned in the books or in a guide school: he took part in several campaigns of archaeological excavations on the site of Caracol, of which one of six months on the spot, and was able to give us exclusive explanations drawn from his personal experience. - Bruce HOttawa, Canada11 contributionsAugusto and his brother Damien were very friendly and knowledgeable guides. Augusto took us to the Caracol Maya ruins. He managed the drive on the challenging road with ease and even spotted a number of wildlife on the way. We were lucky enough to see Scarlet Macaws, Crested Guans, a crocodile and howler monkeys along the road. Augusto filled us with facts and information on the Mayan civilization as we toured through the massive ruins at Caracol. Along the journey Augusto answered our many questions on Belize in general.
Damien was our driver and guide to Barton Creek Cave via a traditional Mennonite village. The canoe trip into the cave was interesting learning about the Mayan rituals performed for the underworld gods. Damien was well organized with all the equipment needed for the excursion in the canoe.

Onil, the guide was excellent- really knowledgeable about the caves, the area around them and Belize in general. We all really enjoyed the trip. The service we had from Cayo Inland expeditions was excellent, and the price was good. Gave us the right info, picked us up on time, very friendly driver and guide, took us to different spots (rio frio caves, rio pools, big rock waterfalls) providing lots of information and answering questions followed by a sumptuous lunch. He took us to Caracol, it was a long drive but he made it worth our time. He was so informative, he possesses a wealth of information. We walked away impregnated with so many facts, so much information. He also went out of his way to take us into town, we wanted to go to the market but it was close. Lunch was served, he cooked it himself, it was finger-licking good. The guide was extremely knowledgeable about the caves and Belizean culture and the whole experience was amazing. We also went down to big rock falls on our own, which was a short walk from Gaia Riverlodge. That was one of our favorite experiences during the whole trip.
