What travellers are saying
- CumTresLunae24 contributionsWe enjoyed this spot while vacationing in Hawaii. This is a great alternative for seeing the Waipio Valley, since the road to the actual valley is closed to the public. It was somewhat overcast while we were there, but it was STILL beautiful despite the weather. Highly recommend!Written May 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Lynn F1 contributionMy husband and I wanted one more thing to do when visiting the BI and so happy we picked this! We had a good time learning about cacao and chocolate and to cap it off, we got to taste some amazing organic chocolate. YUM! Mike is passionate and self-taught which is a great combination. Thanks so much for hosting us, teaching us and sharing your fabulous chocolate. We will be ordering more!Written September 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- mythrenegadeLititz, PA46 contributionsWe loved this tour. We spent two+ hours walking the farm, talking tea and agriculture and enjoying the incredibly peaceful surroundings. We tasted wild berries, sucked the nectar out of ginger flowers, and gained a clear understanding of the tea plant and how it is farmed. It was such a joy to be away from the noise and bustle of day to day life. We concluded in the tea house where our host led us through a Japanese tea ceremony and served us two of their excellent teas. It was peaceful, relaxing and we loved it.
If this sounds amazing to you I can’t recommend it enough. If it sounds boring to you and you are wondering if you’d prefer jumping ATV’s off a cliff this probably isn’t for you.Written September 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Otherwise it’s a long STEEP hike. Remember what goes down must come up. Or you can very cautiously and slowly drive 4 wheel drive down and not enjoy the view because you are focused on the road. And, at the bottom, it’s mostly private land so you can’t just march over to the falls. Either be prepared for a serious hike, enjoy the falls from the easy to get to lookout (nice place for a picnic), or do a horseback tour.Written April 17, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Hannah HBoston, MA5 contributionsWe stopped here on our way back from hiking in Waipio Valley. It was a great little market with some booths selling raw fruits and veggies, while others were preparing food to eat on site. There were some picnic tables where we enjoyed a lunch plate along with some pastries from Kaai and Soo-ling Delights which was so delicious. Highly recommend!Written January 27, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ken F3 contributionsIf you've visited many of the better known sights on the Big Island, Kalopa State Park is well worth a visit. The nature trail offers a look into what the island looked like before the Europeans arrived and the trail markers identify the various trees and plants. The size of some of the trees is impressive. If what you're looking for is the "bright lights" this is not the place but we enjoyed our hike and will return to do more hiking in the future.Written December 14, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Shelly SKauai, HI20 contributionsOur family was lucky enough to join Susan for a 2 hour beekeeping tour yesterday. I have a 6 and 10 year old and they were so engaged and curious the entire time. You could tell Susan's love for beekeeping and we benefited greatly from learning more about these amazing creatures that keep us humans alive. We have visited several other farm tours while visiting the Big Island and this was by far the best experience!!!
It's important for us to make sure our kids know where real food comes from and gain perspective of the ecological balance we need (ie: all insects have jobs and purpose that are critical for our survival) and this tour tied a beautiful bow around that mission for us.
Thank you Susan for sharing your passion and knowledge with us! We will be looking to connect with local beekeepers back at home to continue this wonderful journey into the world of bees!Written April 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was a low key but very interesting trip into the cultural , ethnic , economic and World War II look into the history of the town of Honokaa.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and we not only enjoyed our visit , we learned quite a bit. It's not that far from Hilo and the Akaka Falls as well.Written February 2, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. They were extremely welcoming: we were greeted with coffee and banana muffins, and hugs! They weaved through stories of their experiences harvesting coffee and the challenges they've faced. We saw the beautiful hand crafted pots, lamps, pens, and bowls that Wendell carved. If you want an authentic experience, and you want to help local businesses, don't miss this tour.Written December 3, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mizzougalfromtxTexas136 contributionsWent here specifically for the glass but was pleasantly surprised to find different artwork, gallery items and beautiful jewelry as well. Sales lady was very nice and knowledgeable. They open early afternoon but stay open until the evening, which is nice. We went on a Monday, and a lot of shops in Honokaa are closed on Mondays, so if you're making this town a destination for all the galleries, etc., may want to try a different day of the week.Written April 15, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
