Hard hat tour is a must! I had no idea how extensive the hospital was, let alone how much they did to take care of the immigrants. It was one of the best hospitals in the U.S.! Don't let the "hard hat" description intimidate you. The place is kept in a certain state of decay, but the way is pretty smooth. We all thought the description would put people off unnecessarily. You should wear good shoes, but everything is pretty level, some short stairs, walking inside and out. Great experience!!!

This iconic building just outside Central Park New York is where John Lennon and Yoko Ono lived and where, in the entrance hall, he was shot. Nearby in Central Park there is a memorial area called Strawberry Fields, there was a performer there when we visited.

This museum is housed in the former home of Andrew Carnegie. It is now an art museum. When we visited, there was an art exhibit/installation by Es Devlin, a British artist and stage designer. We took a guided tour of the exhibit. It was interesting and unusual. We spent a little over an hour, but skipped the other exhibits, which weren’t that interesting in my opinion. I was also a little disappointed that while there were architectural details remaining in this beautiful mansion, there were no personal belongings or furnishings of the Carnegies. There is a lovely walled garden, but on the day we went it looked like a private event had taken place and the garden was closed.

I love Teddy Roosevelt and wanted to visit this site for a few years. My wife and I came here in June and we really enjoyed the artifacts and information provided on the first floor; they have quite a bit of artifacts from Teddy's life including the shirt he wore on his assassination attempt, which was very interesting to see. It's unfortunately not the original site as that building was demolished, but they tried to make it as authentic as possible. We ended up not having enough time to do the tour of the building, but that was fine for us as we were more interested in the artifacts than the building itself. It's a neat place to visit and we'd recommend it if you're in the area and enjoy US history.

We decided to wander through this museum after eating at the tavern, and really enjoyed learning more about George Washington's usage of the tavern! We also appreciated the exhibit on the Marquis de Lafayette, who I think is under-appreciated in the history lessons on the American Revolution. We liked seeing some of Washington's personal effects, and learning more about the role of the Fraunces Tavern as a hub for the Revolution. All of the exhibits are maintained with obvious care and pride, and we really felt like we were stepping back through history. The guided tour was super informative! It's too bad this place doesn't get more attention, although I do think it's nice that there wasn't a chaotic crush of people.

We went for the very first time during jazz weekend. I loved seeing everyone in their jazz outfits. We walked all around and love it. Can’t wait to go back. Not sure if the food options or the fort is open during the week day, but the bee sanctuary and the little farm stand was open on the Sunday we went.

I was staying near Federal Hall on a recent trip to New York so was exploring the local area. Pleased to find this beautiful classical building open at 10am daily and free to enter. It is on Wall Street but the entrance is tucked round the back and it was very quiet when I visited. A few exhibition rooms have displays about Washington, who was sworn in as president in a building on this site, and there are models of the previous buildings which stood here. The central rotunda and its domed ceiling is very impressive. In the 1860s it was used as a sub treasury so there is a small display about this too.

No signage that I found, but the organic structure just beckons you to go investigate. Very moving monument, and the fact that it is so different than the architecture around it makes it unique. Glad I happened upon this when I was strolling.

This review happened in June 2024. My wife and I were in New York on vacation and we always visit any national park in the area if we can. We both love history and we had to stop by Hamilton Grange. First the park rangers and amazing and they really know there history. It didn't hurt that the ranger we had was also a big Hamilton fan/nerd. She really got into her short history lesson about Hamilton and the Grange. You can tell it was genuine love she had for the site. It was amazing to be the house that Hamilton lived in. Every room had history and it just gave you this feeing of amazement to know he was here and walked, eat ,and slept here. The visitors office is down stairs, they also have some t-shirts and other things you can buy. They do offer a guided tour of the house with a ranger. I highly recommend you take it. They have a bathroom on site and there is also a drinking fountain. The Grange also has a small walking trail that's nice for a short walk. Lots of shade on the grounds. If you want you can sit for bit and take a break. I highly recommend you stop by for a visit.

Visited this wonderful building with my wife and were lucky enough to take part in a tour hosted by Bro Louis Cooper. He was so informative and passionate about both Freemasonry and the building.

The lodge rooms are jaw dropping. The scale and decor are beautiful.

Well worth a visit for Masons and non Masons alike.

Tucked away from the touristic mainstream is this gem of education and history. The visitor center has an extensive exhibition of African-American life in early Manhattan. Amongst a film and different artefacts, they display explain the history of the place by individual stories of people buried there.

It's now the train station! Yes Amtrak has taken over the huge midtown post office and transformed it into a hall where you await your train. It's brand new and in beautiful shape. Come and see it before it gets old and dirty! Works well as a train station, but not a lot of activity.
