What travellers are saying
- JHM231Connecticut241 contributionsThere are so many things to enjoy about the Cloisters. It is quite compact compared to other museums so you will be able to take it all in. The collections are stunning, especially the tapestries, but every area has interesting and historical architectural details, furniture, fixtures, artwork. The building itself is very atmospheric and features grand spaces, with collections from ecclesiastical ancient buildings. It is almost like travelling to medieval Europe - including the actual Cloisters courtyard gardens, another wonderful feature. Don't miss the view from the terrace over the Hudson! The Cloisters surpassed all of my expectations.Written January 7, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Allan SNew York City, NY7,069 contributionsI love to come here as a refuge for the busy city and the best time here is spring. The well maintained flower beds, specimen trees and shrubs snd well maintained walks make this a great spot to relax and recharge. Many young families pushing carriages, school children after their hours snd bus loads of visitors flock here. Great spot to picnic or just hang out or stroll with loved ones 0 seconds Molly one of the best spots to visit located at 105 street and fifth avenue with the opening at the Vanderbilt gate.Written April 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris MNew Mexico57 contributionsWe went there for lunch. Although there were numerous places to purchase meals the lines were very long. We were on a tour and our time was limited. The Winter Gardens is a beautiful venue.Written September 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- therichastillStevenage, UK3,497 contributionsIn the shadow of Belvedere Castle is Shakespeare Garden. I discovered it by accident but I was glad I did. It is a small well tended area with a variety of different flowers growing. Whilst I was there a number of volunteers were working to make the garden look nice which was good to see.
When I visited there were still some things to see even though it was not the season for flowers in bloom.
There are pubic toilets nearby as well just in case nature calls ;)Written January 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mountains2SeaMontana509 contributionsWent here with my mom and enjoyed great views with some wind shelter and sunshine. Could definitely be improved, but not bad for March. Tried to find/use elevator, but it was not accessible due to construction. Would definitely return with coffee or lunch.Written March 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sherry HNorth Canton, OH417 contributionsThis special garden has an interesting history and is a testament to what can be done when people work together for the betterment of their neighborhood. It’s free to visit on Sundays 1:00-4:00, April-November. Talk to one of the volunteers to get the whole story. If you’re in the Upper West Side it’s a must do, but I don’t suggest going cross town just to see it because it’s pretty small.Written August 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KmcoyleSanbornville, NH1,407 contributionsWandering around the West Village and had one of the "locals " direct me to this little slice of natural beauty and peaceful contemplation. A number of short, but curved paths taking maximum advantage of the limited space. Lots of different flowers and bushes with many benches and seats. 'B' for Botanical
We call it a botanical garden because that's the traditional name for a garden where visitors come to learn about lots of plants from lots of places. The garden includes hundreds of plants, native plants as well as many that were immigrants to New York-- and that makes our garden a lot like our community.
'C' for Community
Unlike many other botanical gardens, 6BC is also a community garden: East Villagers, all volunteers, started building it on a rubble-strewn empty lot in the early 1980s.
Since then, our garden's story, like our neighborhood's, has been one of constant challenge and change.
Today, after a period in which 6BC's survival, like that of other New York community gardens, was threatened by the city's exploding development, our garden's land has been permanently set aside for public use as part of the New York City Parks system.
For a former farmboy like myself, these neighborhood gardens and parks are a wonderful reminder of my childhood back in Wisconsin.Written July 31, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you miss the tulips, summer flowers follow in this beautiful Upper Westside Oasis.
I am a regular here, as I am frequently in the neighborhood. A great place to bring a cup of coffee in the morning and read the paper.Written April 30, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. In the parlk, is the Heather Garden which is managed by a non profit organization and volunteers. They provided a walking tour along with photos of the history of the park.
This is a great "botanical garden" in every way, and worth the special trip, along with a "must see" visit to the Cloister Museum, and the great view of the Hudson River.Written September 3, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
