What travellers are saying
- ERFSU82Wellington, FL1,224 contributionsShort on time while passing through town, we decided to stop in and take a look. Although we would have liked to have spent more time, we had about an hour to explore the library and museum, which was very well done. The exhibits provide an engaging history of FDR‘s time in office along with original artifacts, including his oval office desk, his car, and his famous glasses. If you like presidential history, this is a great place to spend some time.Written January 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jerseytraveler08540Princeton, NJ180 contributionsI have visited multiple times and always learn something new. The museum exhibits are so well done and interesting. For anyone interested in this time in our history, it is a must see. We spent most of the day there.Written November 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mark J6 contributionsWhen you think of incredibly good food at a top restaurant you equate that with a certain attitude from the wait staff and high price, not so here! The students at the culinary institute are enthusiastic and dedicated to the pursuit of culinary excellence! Our meal was absolutely outstanding and served by some of the nicest young people I have met in a long time. I actually ate at the institute many years ago when I lived in the area and encouraged my traveling companions to take in an evening meal there. They were greatly impressed at the quality of service and also the incredibly well prepared menu selections that we had. I did sample their craft beer made on the premises and have to say it is up there with some of the finest made today! The most pleasant surprise was that we enjoyed a meal that normally you would only find in a five-star restaurant but we did not go into sticker shock from the bill at the end of the night. It was incredibly reasonable given the high-end service and quality we received. Reservations are recommended for good reason as they were very busy with a lot of very happy diners!Written October 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jerseytraveler08540Princeton, NJ180 contributionsThis site is so impressive as well as the history that goes along with it. Our tour guide, Ranger Ryan, was incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining. It was not the time of year to visit the gardens, so I might have to return in the spring.Written November 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - VeroveeBrooklyn, NY98 contributionsWe did a farm tour only. We were with our five year old who was being a bit fussy because she was cold. But even in her mood she admitted the alpacas were beautiful. The farm itself is lovely and the animals are friendly. The donkeys are especially adorable. All the animals were very tolerant of people petting and scratching them. The only disappointments were that the tour felt a little short (and we stayed pretty much in the same spot the whole time) and we didn’t visit the sheep or get to see the bunnies. The tour guide was patient with my many questions and was knowledgeable. The gift shop has some nice woolen goods made from the wool of the farm animals and some stuffed toys. It was Mid range (fairly reasonable) expensive. If tempted by a hat you may want to try it on. I didn’t want to try it on but now I have very nice, warm, but too small hat. If you’re going in late fall as we did note that it gets cold in the field. - Mark J6 contributionsWhen you think of Eleanor Roosevelt you are inclined to include her within the scope of her husband's three term administration. What makes this beautiful little cottage so unique is that not only is it the only national historic site dedicated to a first lady, it is most well deserved as truly she was the first lady of the world. The list of influential people who came right up until the last years of her life to visit and seek her counsel is impressive. This formidable woman helped shape policy not only during the FDR years but also was a force for change and a great humanitarian. A fearless champion of human rights! If you look up the definition of a self empowered woman I am certain you will see Eleanor's picture next to the definition.Written October 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gypsyredSarasota, FL279 contributionsThis is the home FDR grew-up in and raised in family in. The tour by the National Park Service is informative and interesting. You actually go into the house and are permitted to wander around and take pictures. One may also wander the spectacular gardens where FDR and Eleanor are buried along with the stable.Written August 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - italiabella9Scranton, PA91 contributionsWe did the overlook trail which was fairly flat, not too strenuous and had nice views of the river and island. The top also has a large grassy area that would be nice for a picnic. This trail is NOT stroller friendly. We abandoned ours maybe .25 miles in and picked it up on the way back, but that meant carrying our 20lb 10 month old.Written June 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Justin WHasbrouck Heights, NJ3,734 contributionsI was able to finally tour the Hyde Park Historical Society as it was finally open. The volunteer who was there that day told me that there are a lot of new members and the museum had just gone through a renovation and resetting of the artifacts.
The museum tells the story of the Town of Hyde Park and the surrounding areas. It has a display of bicycles when you walk in, displays on turn of the century clothing and accessories, pictures of the school system, the fire department, the police department and the businesses in the area. There are all sorts of artifacts from all the eras in the museum.
The volunteer that they are starting to remount everything so to come back and see all the changes that will be going on. There are also lectures and walking tours planned.Written August 27, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If the station isn’t open there is a signboard with the history of the station out front.Written September 26, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ilga ZPoughkeepsie, NY2 contributionsThe art work changes every 2 months. There are some amazing artists displaying their work. Definitely worth stopping by. Since it is a collective they can offer great prices. - Carole BToms River, NJ12 contributionsI stopped in for a stroll around the shop in between tours of local historical sites. Lots of items, an amazing clock section, with a lovely selection of coppers which is always my main interest. I think, however, that the prices were a little steep. I did purchase two items, but the items I wanted most were just out of my range, though they were great pieces.Written November 13, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
