- BrienbutBlind Bay, Canada527 contributionsMake sure you visit this historic site. The visitor centre describes in detail the early explorers who came to Placentia to fish. The French established a colony here and erected fortifications to protect the community. The displays in the Centre are excellent. The tour around outside and up the steps gives you an excellent perspective about the castle like Fort. The view from the top of Placentia is worth the climb.Written September 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sarah KEdmonton, Canada1,298 contributionsGreat little museum with some really interesting local history including things like locals being forced off the nearby islands into bigger towns. The main floor is all set up like the home would have been back in the day. We got a tour from a local and it was short but informative.Written July 18, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Donna RElliot Lake, Canada645 contributionsOur fault - we didn't reserve in advance but honestly apart from the location it didn't look that exciting. Very few treed lots and really small lots for the most part. The office was closed for lunch so we waited around with the hope we could book in for an evening - seeing there were quite a few vacant spots. A lady with motor home ahead of us was also waiting for the return from lunch and had made a reservation weeks prior. When the office opened - late - we were informed there was nothing available. Odd, it didn't look booked up but who knows? The lady with the motor home was informed the spot she had reserved was not available and she would have to take a much smaller, less impressive site. She was quite tee' d off to put it mildly. They did offer us the "overflow" - a small parking lot off to the side for half price - with no services or trees so we declined and drove on.Written May 19, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - roncdnBurlington, Canada91 contributionsLots of items from around the area and the island. All the site centre's have some type of gift shop. Staff was friendly and helpful. Bought a picture from a local artist but as she took it off the wall for us she put the same one back. She could have waited till we left which would have made us feel special 😊Written August 28, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
