Thorold is a beautiful and very interesting place! The entire downtown has been historically designated and is absolutely beautiful! ( It is currently featured in an Ontario Hydro tv commercial.)
There are unique, one of a kind shops, run by their local owners. (i.e., Shannon Passero /The Post Office). There are three great restaurants downtown, too. Ontario Hydro is currently featuring downtown Thorold in one of their commercials.
The fourth Welland Canal is also an amazing sight, with 800 foot ships, from all over the world, "climbing" the Niagara Escarpment in Thorold. The Viewing Centre at Lock 7 offers the best view of Locks 4, 5 , 6, the twinned lift locks, and Lock 7, the final lift lock.
Thorold has many beautiful parks, gorgeous historic homes and churches, great restaurants and fabulous one-of-a-kind shops.
There are historic sites relating to the War of 1812 and the building of the four Welland Canals. There are also great restaurants and lovely BandB's.
Thorold is just a short drive, about 15 minutes, from Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, St. Catharines etc. As someone else wrote, Thorold is the "best-kept" secret in Niagara!!
We stayed at a beautiful Bed and Breakfast close to downtown.
    We highly recommend!

Went here for the inaugural sprint car event in July.
I had been in contact with the track owners Don and Lorraine about tickets, seating, Covid precautions etc - they are most excellent people : patient , informative , friendly and "work" with you :)
The track and concessions were run very well.
Highly recommend this for race fans and family entertainment.

I like this Mel Swart Lake Gibson Conservation Park. Yes it has a long name, but it is a place for hiking and nature.

We hiked and had fun. There were trees. Cool!

I enjoyed also the birds on the Gibson Lake.

We hiked to the highest part of the park.

There are bridges in this park.

    What a great place.

    A must see!

We dropped into this conservation area for the first time. The setting is beautiful just outside the Short Hills Provincial park near Fonthill. The small fishing pond is fantastic and I would highly recommend to bring you young children there to fish . Lots of small fish to keep them busy also frogs and turtles. They also have a number of wonderful walking trails thru the Carolinian Forest.

Thanks go to the Friends who have helped raise the funds and get the work done to restore the house and the flour mill next door. It now represents life circa 1935.

This place owns a part of my heart, having grown up in St Johns Valley. An early settlement, this area was a bustling place of industry in the 1700s -- filled with families and mills. The school house was originally on the other side of the road and was relocated. Operating into the 1950s as a school house, it is one of the oldest in Ontario. Often a must for elementary schools who trek by the bus load to visit and learn about the area. Explore the old roads, which in places transport you to another time, since they have changed very little. Read up on the history. Find out when Doors Open makes this place available to the public with educators and tours. An enjoyable drive through the valley not people are aware even exists. A+++ <3

Saturday performance was my first viewing of a symphony. The orchestra playing was beautiful.Small parts of circus was ok.I dressed up but most audiences were casual wear, not as formal as 40 years ago.I will visit again to see David Bowie Overature in February 2017.Partridge Hall sound and lighting helped to make the sympathy complete.Conductor direction made the flow of music wonderfully.Recommend.

This is the Battle of Beaverdams. It is now in the park, so that everyone can see the historic:

The Americans troops attacked the Canadians.
    Here is what happened:

The Battle of Beaver Dams took fights at the place on June 24 .

The Canadians won!1 813, during the War of 1812. An American column marched from Fort George and attempted to surprise a British outpost at Beaver Dams, billeting themselves overnight in the village of Queenston,

Laura Secord, a resident of Queenston, had earlier learned of the
American plans, and had struck out on a long and difficult trek to warn the British at Decou's stone house near present-day Brock University.

When the Americans resumed their march, they were ambushed by Native warriors and eventually surrendered to a small British detachment led by Lieutenant James Fitz Gibbon.

    They Canadians had won.
    The Canadians won.
