We wanted to meet up with our friends to celebrate our respective wedding anniversaries and chose Coggeshall for both a lovely lunch (Ranfield Brasserie) and a visit to Paycocke's House. Both were superb choices and made it a very special day. The house and gardens are superb examples of past times and a really positive experience. Unfortunately we missed the play in the gardens but we met a lady who said how wonderful that had been. She and her husband had stayed for both performances despite only turning up on a whim.

Wow, I'm a bit speechless when it comes to the experience we had visiting the Coggeshall museum, but let me give it a try...

Our family name is Coggeshall and in researching our ancestry we found the town of Coggeshall in the UK. We contacted the museum to see if we could visit and learn more. The volunteers at the museum truly made our entire trip by creating such an amazing experience for us.

The town & museum are small but the history and interesting amount of things to learn are vast!

The museum itself is packed with information and relics of the town from generations back. We had an entire day planned for us by the volunteers and really couldn't have had a better day. We loved learning about the town, hearing all the unique stories, and were so appreciative to have all our questions eagerly answered.

We had such an amazing time and truly cannot thank the museum volunteers enough for creating such a special day for my dad and our family. We'll remember it forever!

For anyone interested in local history or with the Coggeshall name, I highly recommend visiting the town & the museum is a must see when there.

Thank you Nic, Bob, & Dudley for an unforgettable experience.

P.S. The coffee shop & lunch spot recommended to us were both fabulous!

P.P.S We did a day trip from London but easily could have stayed overnight to explore a bit more :)

While it is wonderful that this building is maintained and made available to the public, it isnt a patch on the two that are more within their settings and freely available nearby

We spent a lovely day walking around the old village of Coggeshall. We entered the beautiful St Peter de Vincula church and chapel. This is a working church and flowers were laid around an ancient hand wheeled hearse. This church was damaged and partly rebuilt during the war, but the vaults to the underground crypts with headstones were still to be seen, some dated 1690 at at time when the area had a healthy wool industry. Most of the old historic houses were closed and we could only view the outside. I would suggest a summer visit when you are able to view the interiors of the old houses as well, this would be well worth the visit. We ended the outing with a good meal at one of the local pubs.
