Walking along the Gurne D’Alcantara is definitely worth your effort. Stunning views, nice pick nick area’s and a challenging but not too challenging walk make this a walk to remember! I highly recommend it!

This feels like an ode to times gone by. It’s dusty, old, torn, dark, sometimes even smelly, one might even say creepy. A totally different universe exposes itself here, near an impressive graveyard. It all feels as if someone has forgotten to keep it tidy and clean, in fact as if everyone has forgotten this place. Should one visit this? Maybe only to be shocked, that this still exists…

Beautiful building and an active archaeological site, staffed by local council workers on voluntary rotations - our guide was informative and clearly proud of the improvements being made to the museum as well as having excellent knowledge of the history of the area. We weren't expecting a guided tour but he really brought it to life and was happy to answer questions - also very patient with my broken beginner Italian! We were the only visitors in the museum and I hope more people take the opportunity to see this community effort.

Biggest collection we've ever seen - a bit of added interest in the hotel.

This is a really beautiful part of Sicily. The views from here of Mt. Etna and the surrounding areas are breathtaking. The "ghost town" is home only to many cows and their young. The cows are relatively calm and are more afraid of you than you are of them. They seem to wander freely through the village. Many of these abandoned homes are now home to the cows, so watch your step as you explore. There is a lot of over growth so I suggest comfortable hiking shoes and long pants. There are some trails off the "main road" which lead to lovely views. The trails are pretty easy hikes, there is a bit of an incline but nothing crazy. If you are in the area and have time, it's a great stop!

The place where stay the castle is an strategic position to observe the entire valley. In the norman era this was many important for to see the enemy arriving and to organize the city defense. Today is an quiet place from where admire the valley, the Alcantara river and other city in around like to Castiglione di Sicilia. It is easy to reach from Francavilla di Sicilia. It is no far from Taormina from where need about 30 minutes

Some great views are to be had from here. In particular of Mount Etna and Castiglione di Sicilia. There is also a fantastic view of Francavilla di Sicilia as well as Alcantara Valley.
