We were traveling from Hamburg destined to Bremen and decided to take the longer route and pass by Cuxhaven for lunch and stroll. It was lucky for us to have beautiful sky and sunshine after the rain in Hamburg. The promenade and the ring wall was quite quaint and cute as we had never been to a beach like that. It was extreme low tide and the water was like a mile out. And it was chilly, although some die hard holiday-makers still brave the elements with the blue skinned toddlers half naked rolling around. The stroll along the wall until the end, which has a lighthouse takes 30min max. We ended up at this self service North Sea style restaurant and ordered fish for the day plus one buttered fried plaice (Schorle ) which were so fresh, delicious and reasonable in price. We tried very hard but could not finish the two plates of fish which was only EUR 20 in total!

We just went here to watch the penguin feeding, which happens every afternoon. They have a small zoo there but it is great to see the different animals and you can tell they all are being looke after. What we did not expect was the amazing playground in the park. The play equipment is for all ages and the children spend nearly 2 hours in the park all up. Can only recoomend it as it is a great place to spend some time

We decided at short notice to do this trip so rang yesterday and booked for today's tour. The times vary with the tides so today we left at 7.25am. They take money from you, get you in and take off so we enjoyed arriving early to see the dogs, cat and horses beforehand.
We had many layers on, plus the provided blanket, and it was bone chillingly cold as we went out onto the sand and across the tidal estuary. But it was fascinating to travel the 12kms in just over an hour, to see the Weser and Elbe rivers either side, the channels of water, the rescue baskets, the branches marking the way and the trucks taking supplies to Neuwerk Island.
The hour on the island was not long enough as we needed time to defrost near the heater and have coffee before we explored up the lighthouse.
The trip back was not so windy and cold so was fabulous (till the last ten minutes when the heavens opened and we got drenched.) The experience was unique and amazing but I thought the driver could have greeted us, told us what to expect and give advice on how best to wrap the blanket to keep warm and help us take photos. He did give German language updates, so luckily my friend could translate.
