A pleasant visit to Castle Ward. Peaceful grounds and well signposted routes. The house was open when we visited and the distinctive styles were very obvious.

The room stewards were very good - informative, friendly, willing to answer questions and provide more information, but also happy to let you browse independently - the right mix.

Also had a short walk around the grounds. The paths are quite steep and they do lead down to the lough. Very pleasant.

We also visited the bookshop (very reasonably priced) and the cafe, where the food was hot and tasty.

We drove along the shoreline of the Lough and crossed it on the ferry. It’s a beautiful location with lots of historic buildings/castles along its shores.

We took our daughters down today after one got a voucher for her birthday and what an absolute outstanding experience. It was a great day out and the place and everything about it was exceptional. The lough walk was unreal and the views were class. Tracey, Katie & Matthew couldn’t be nicer or more helpful and made the experience what it was.

Very lucky to come and a baby only being born hours before then whilst there I was able to watch the 2nd baby be born.

Couldn’t recommend the place highly enough and would recommend booking for the whole family

A hidden gem of a beach 🏖️. The sand, water and beach quality is excellent. Safe bathing and plenty of rock pools to explore. 45 mins by car from Belfast

Recently went for a lovely walk for 1 1/2 hours at Killard Nature Reserve and really enjoyed such a beautiful setting which takes you over the coastline and onto the beach where two hang gliders were flying above us.
Very manageable terrain which folk bring their dogs walking on a lead
Good place for a picnic on a warmer summer day
Good parking facilities close to the road

A very pleasent and beautiful location, situated on shore of Strangford lough, beside rear entrance to Castleward NT property. Free parking near location (limited space on quiet country road) no admission charge. Mostly a gentle walk on clearly defined paths. Gradient up to derelict Castle, with lovely views of lough and Portaferry on other side. Pleasent shore line loop walk alongside castle that takes about 1hr max to complete. No facilities at this location but cafe in nearby Castleward estate and several eateries in nearby Strangford.

In terms of neolithic knowledge much is lacking about places like this ....a typical example of what I am saying is Ballynoe Stone Circle which if it were on the outskirts of a large English town would be considered a valuable tourism asset. Instead it is ignored by the establishment while given the appropriate publicity would be a strong tourist attraction.....Michael Drake.
