Very interesting, good visual displays and the usual written information boards dotted throughout the caves. They also have an information booklet in English available at the entrance. Small cafe offering lite snacks Well worth a visit.

Such a place to visit for its activities on Maison du Parc in Montsoreau. All around the earth and planet Terre to learn or remember about our concern in the future for us and our children

The village of Montsoreau is one of the 150 or so “Most Beautiful Villages of France” and the castle is of course considered to be one of its highlights. It sits in a commanding position on the banks of the wide Loire river, and the views from the top of the castle are exceptional.
The castle is bare inside: no furniture, no armoury, no draperies etc..., so a permanent exhibition has been set up throughout the rooms. Sadly it is about contemporary “Art & Language” and is unlikely to wow a majority of the visitors. I personally thought it was awful. The only plus point is that there is a lot of English translation for Anglophone visitors. Entrance fee is just short of €10 per adult.

Not always open at the published times, but I was able to get in on my 3rd attempt.
Said to have been neglected as there were 3 other churches in Montsoreau, but I wonder if it was really because it frequently flooded?

OK, lets start with the fact that the boat 'captain' and commentator doesn't speak English. He says that upfront, and then tries his best to get snippets of info across. We are in France!

Next, the cruise only goes ahead if there are 10 or more reservations, so outside of peak season you'd be advised to book at the start of your stay, then be flexible.

Now that is out of the way, if you sit back, relax, enjoy some excellent vin de pays (local wine), and let the afternoon flow you will have a beautiful cruise on a 'wild' river (it is not dredged and not navigable by large ships), meet some new people while mingling on the front deck, and be entertained by the local wildlife.

The food was excellent too, local meats, rillettes, mushroom caps filled with local delicacies and, if you choose the big lunch, chicken. All finished off with coffee and a lovely apple tart.

This seems like a family business, run with passion. It was such a pleasant way to spend a perfect autumn day, and our last day in the Loire Valley.

Thank-you to the crew of The Amarante.
