The best museum you will ever visit in the friendliest community you will ever visit.

I highly recommend this museum and a visit to Sointula.

We were a group of eight, out for the day to explore Malcolm Island. We drove through the campground to the parking area at the trailhead within Bere Point Regional Park. There’s a tire swing just off the parking lot some of our group enjoyed before we hit the trail. Its a short stroll through the rain forest to an observation deck and the first set of stairs down to the oceanfront. Most of our group opted to park themselves on the beach right there where they enjoyed watching the marine wildlife (whales, seals, and sea birds) and searching for interesting stones or beach glass. A couple of us wanted to stretch our legs a bit more, so after wandering up the beach to explore the small research station located there, we climbed back up to the trail and continued on.
We had had a few days of heavy rain just prior, and there are naturally boggy sections as well so make sure you have appropriate footwear. The path meanders through the forest, with several sections of wooden bridges or boardwalk, some in quite ill repair. There are some lovely large trees, and an abundance of flora to explore. We didn’t go all the way to the point as we were pressed for time, but found a lovely large tree right beside the path, overlooking the water where we sat quietly for a few moments to meditate and forest bathe. Ironically, this was the point when another couple of hikers and their friendly dog happened by, the only other people we saw all day! This is really a lovely, relatively easy and enjoyable trail. It’s an out and back trail, not a loop so gauge your time, and go as far as you are comfortable with before turning about.

The water has a red/brown tinge to it but is very clean. We all had a very refreshing swim here and the trail is a wonderful hike!

Lovely little place with Finnish heritage. The trip took for awhile, but it was worth of it.
Visited Sointula with some Canadian friends. Stayed at Oceanfront hotel, the view from the balcony fantastic.
There are few "restaurants" and hotels. Book ahead a room. Co-operative shop closed on Mondays, so are the restaurants. Info place next to the ferry. Met a lovely Finnish lady and learned more.

This was my first ever Yoga Retreat & it exceeded my every expectation! The cosy rustic beach front camp on Malcolm Island, spiritual yet energising Yoga & fabulous food was beautifully complimented by some unforgetable Orca & Whale encounters & an interesting introduction to First Nation culture & history. I had a truely memorable seven days with Florine, Julien, Adelie & my fellow guests - I would give the retreat 10 stars if I could & can't recommend this trip enough - I will be back again..!
