Nothing to read in English, but a clear example of civic pride. Komsomolsk was purpose built as a factory town and all the exhibits testify to local pride in the things they built and the government recognition that they gained.

One of the places you definitely need to visit in this town. The grandeur of interior is astonishing. And this is just the beginning. The talent of the theater cast should be witnessed.

Situated on the river front this monument probably romanticises the early builders of the city. Nearby are the river station and world war 2 memorial. All worth a visit if one is stopping for rest on the BAM

"Python" from the moment of its creation attracted all mothers with children of the city. As a result now there is very worthy variety of various animals and birds, and also reptiles collected. Visit of this place doesn't leave burdensome impression, on the contrary, animals look well-groomed, it is visible that animals are loved and caressed. The price for an entrance is not high. For those who visiting the city with children.

In my native Komsomolsk there aren't a lot of places where it is possible to have a rest mentally, and this theater is the best of them. Theater performances are worthy the best world platforms, and they regularly prove it by successful tours in Europe. KNAM theater is just not simple theater, it is the center of modern culture practically of any trend. Here you can enjoy exhibitions, movies and many other things. If you are visiting Komsomolsk that is surely the place to visit in the Far East.

We took a long distance overnight bus from khabarovsk, and arrived in Komsomolsk at the Ferry Terminal at 6am. We found that the amur embankment area was the most scenic in Komsomolsk. The Ferry Terminal had a park in front of it, which had a fountain and a few statues. The main monument here, was dedicated to the first builders of Komsomolsk. The first builders were the young arm of the communist party, but the main construction of Komsomolsk was done by prisoners of the many Gulags which were in the area. Komsomolsk was one of the main areas that administered the Gulag system. To the south of this area is the WW2 and Afghanistan monument.

The tram turns around in front of the ferry building, and for 21 ruble is a cheap ride into town.Walking in an easterly direction, just past the tram and at the end of the ferry building is the founders stone monument. This marks the place where the founders landed. The embankment is a grey and pink stone walkway. It is decorated with many flowers, and benches face the direction of the amur. This is a great place to relax. If you continue walking in this direction, the long distance bus terminus will come into view at the end of the pathway. Quite a few local buses into town use this area to start their route.

The embankment is a must see when visiting Komsomolsk, and is easily reached as most transportation options head in this direction.

It's way off in the distance when you stand at the river embankment but then you realize that you crossed it when you approached Komsomolsk. Russians do river crossings really well.

Because Komsomolsk was built from scratch in Soviet times the town has no sense if history or culture. That may help explain the paucity of houses of worship. A very nice, compact bulding located at the intersection of two major avenues.

The war memorial dedicated to the fallen soldiers in WW2 is located just opposite the ferry terminal. This was the best war memorial that we viewed on our trip. The three columns next to the eternal flame is the first section of the memorial that will be seen. The column to the left has 1941 at the top and the column to the right has 1945 at the top. Both years are in gold, and represent the duration of WW2. The central column has a gold star with a hammer and sickle insignia in the center. Beneath the gold star is a officers sabre and a rifle. We visited early in the morning, and were surprised that there were no soldiers "guarding" the eternal flame, as is customary.

Directly in front of the eternal flame are seven (7) faces carved out of granite boulders. Five together on the right and two on the left. The sculptor was N. S. Ivleva, who chose the number of 7 heads, as it is a lucky number in Russia. The sculpture was dedicated in 1972, and this is shown on the rear of one of the heads. The sculpture is on the grey tiled area of the monument base. The pink tilled area around the sculpture has beautiful flower beds that are well maintained. We got a great photo of the soviet red star which was made with flowers. At the edge of the memorial (to the left of the sculpture) are carved thousands of names of war dead. We were very impressed with the details of the names, as even though other war memorials had names listed, this memorial had the years of birth and death, so it was interesting viewing the ages of the soldiers at death. There were quite a few years of birth missing.

There was a special dedication to soldiers who were awarded military honours. This area was decorated with a gold edging, and the area with the names had carvings of medals and soviet stars.Later in the day we made a second visit and at that time soldiers were posted on either side of the flame. We found it interesting that a male and female soldier were posted on either side of the flame. The soldiers on the left wearing brown overcoats and the soldiers on the right black overcoats.

In the park area, on a path directly behind the eternal flame is another monument. This monument is in the shape of an arch with a bell suspended. The bell may be rung, as there is a rope attached to it, but we were not sure if this was allowed so decided not to attempt to ring it. Above the bell is a black tulip outline which appears to be growing from the area of the bell and pushing up between the columns. This monument is dedicated to the war dead in the Afghan war. We had visited a similar monument in Khabarovsk. The monument was black, and edged with gold trim. A plaque was at the base of the pedestal, with Russian inscriptions.

This was the most impressive war memorial that we had visited on our Russian trip.
