What travellers are saying
- NMkittenAmarillo, TX82 contributionsVery well done museum. Great information about the ship and those who have served the country from the state of Louisiana. The ship was fun to tour. Tons of ladders to climb that are steep and narrow.Written October 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Darlene HAustin, TX1,902 contributionsMy husband and I were in Baton Rouge for LSU basketball games and we were able to go to the Capitol.
I was especially intrigued by the history about the assignation of Governor Huey Long! It was pointed out to us that there are multiple bullet holes in the walls where he was shot!
Don’t miss the opportunity to go to the observation deck! The views are amazing!Written March 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were there when the fans stormed the court after the last minute win over Kentucky on February 21st! Our grandson plays on the team!Written March 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Christopher MHershey, PA165 contributionsBeautiful building and grounds right on the river. Several informative and educational areas that were well done and presented. Would highly recommend.Written February 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Nofrillstraveler54 contributionsI have been to a few different plantations, and this is the only one that did not try to sugarcoat or erase history. The displays do a great job of showing how cruel slavery was. The grounds are well laid out, kept, and clean. It is also refreshing to be able to visit and learn history, instead of listing to employees promote the grounds for rental for your next wedding or get together.Written October 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dick PAmite, LA508 contributionsMike, the LSU mascot, has a multimillion dollar habitat. When we were there, he walked along in front of the glass viewing windows, waded though his pool by the glass windows, and then laid down right in front of us. He is a large, impressive cat.Written April 13, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- retireeVancouverVancouver, Canada1,836 contributionsWe spent 2 hours at this wonderful modern museum which showcases important happenings in Louisiana from its American purchase to Mardi Gras. The museum uses large print information boards, maps, photos, models, etc to inform visitors about Louisiana's political, social, economic, and cultural history. These topics are addressed in 19 different areas. The brochure at the ticket desk has a helpful layout map which summarizes these areas. We used it to navigate the museum exhibits, but visitors with limited time could pick and choose the exhibits of interest to them with that brochure. The museum entrance fee is very reasonable too ($5 senior discount) - another reason to visit.
This museum has a good location with its proximity to the Louisiana State Capitol and Capitol Gardens which would also be of interest to tourists. Tourists could spend a good portion of the day in this part of the city just sightseeing, not driving to sights.Written January 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LisaPlattsburgh, NY2 contributionsDefinitely go through with the tour guide. She had a lot of info about the Louisiana area, the plantation and so much more. There were only 2 of us that went through with the guide so we were able to ask questions and see everything we wanted. Lots of interesting facts about how the plantation was run and how people lived at that time in history.Written January 18, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tammy B1 contributionTook my grandchildren for their birthday this past weekend. This was our first visit and we loved it. While a large portion is being renovated the kids still had a wonderful time. We appreciated the passes to return in the futurem and look forward to the new exhibits. The tiger exhibit was beautiful and the kids enjoyed the playground and petting zoo.Written October 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Zenia ForemanAtlanta, GA1 contributionLouisiana Science and Art Museum was an amazing place! They feature many exhibits, including a display of different planets that allow you to see your weight on each planet, a display of lasers and how they can affect you, a display of the ancient Egyptians and the different aspects of their culture, etc. My personal favorites are the mummy exhibit and exhibit on dinosaurs and their different discovered fossils. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. The workers are very friendly and admission into the museum was quick and easy. Overall, it was great!Written December 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
