This is one of my favorite places in Richmond. Not only the exhibits but also the cafe, restaurant, the outdoor area, and gift shop are a great way to spend the day.

We toured Maymont on Saturday November 3. We had a guided tour inside Maymont by a knowledgable guide. It is an interesting mansion reflecting the style of the guided age. It was built and lived in by James and Sally Dooley from the late 1800s til about 1923ish. While much of the house is interesting, Sally Dooley's swan shaped bed is particularly fascinating. Some of the furniture pieces from Asia (China?) on the second and third floors are very attractive. We had hoped to see the gardens and we did walk through the Italian gardens, but it was too late to get to the Japanese garden which was a mile and a half away. The museum and grounds closed at 4:00 that day because they were having an event later. Our advice -- if you go, get there early and see the Japanese gardens. There is also an area where one can see animals that might be interesting

The light display was fabulous. We started our tour in the conservatory where there are beautiful large plants. Some rare others not but Hugh! Such a worthwhile visit.

Within a short walk Presidents Tyler and Monroe are buried! A beautiful location overlooking the river. The entire cemetery is beautiful and full of historical figures including Confederate President Jeff Davis.

For being just a state capitol building, it definitely was much more imposing than I imagined - both from an exterior and interior point of view. Worth a walk through just to take a peek.

Considering the topic, the tour guide managed to do a good job separating modern social and political problems from the history for the most part. Place is rather small, and to be honest actually not really that interesting by itself - it is more interesting to hear about Davis's life on the tour.

A one-mile strip of shops and cafes and restaurants SO reminiscent of Berkeley CA. A man playing a digereedoo on the street. Diverse and happy crowd strolling along. Deserved more time than we gave it.

I have been to many holocaust museums throughout the world. This might be one of the smallest, but most poignant and powerful I've ever visited. It does a great job of taking you throughout the war and displaying the atrocities in a realistic way. I think it's done in a fashion that's easily digestible for kids, though I think this is best left for teens and older. If you are in Richmond, this is a do not miss if you want to learn more about history.

I visited St. John’s Episcopal Church in October 2023. I went first to the Visitor Center. For $5, I was able to go inside the church. A Docent pointed out where Patrick Henry stood to give his famous “Give me Liberty or give me Death” speech in 1775. The Docent also explained the history of the church. It was a very worthwhile place to visit.

We took a one mile walk from our hotel located next to the Convention Center to the river and proceeded to make a 6-mile loop from there on a portion of the large network of trails and pathways. Some were clearly marked and some were unmarked. We walked along both sides of the river, across both pedestrian bridges, and enjoyed it all.

Small museum, but full of very interesting artifacts, not only about Poe but time period as well. Has a very 'Poe' feeling even if he didn't actually live in the house. It is worth a stop in Richmond for any one interested in Edgar Allan Poe.
