I know I am getting in early, but thinking about January next year for our family of five and another family of four (and whoever I can rope in between now and then).
Can someone give me an idea of price per night for a family (presumably two rooms) with ensuites?
For dinners, can you cook your own? And what is the cost for the dinner if the hosts cook?
The rooms are not self contained you can't make a cuppa in your room or make food. Check the website for up to date prices for staying but it was around 8600 yen per person per night including breakfast (so look at the exchange rate for AUD). Dinner was about $150 AUD for a family of four but is a five course quite fancy meal. We ate out at many of the local restaurants most of the time for between $60-$120 for the four of us including drinks. We booked about 12 months ahead there is a choice of western and traditional rooms we stayed in the traditional rooms which slept max four per room but comfortably two adults. Each of the traditional rooms has its own ensuite. We had two rooms but as I said the price is just per person.
