Looks like a splurge that might be worth is- am I right that a huge advantage to staying at the lodge is that you can relax about getting to the lake, finding parking, etc.? Sounds like otherwise you need to arrive very early to get a parking spot and canoe.
Am really sorry for being late in answering it , and am not sure if my answer will be of any relevance with the time I lost in answering it. Pardon me for it. Here is my take -
There might be many thoughts that will spring your mind of the advantage given the splurge it is , but let me tell you - You won;t regret it at all. Its really nice to stay up close such a lake that you can see many times a day during different time and that too at your own comfort without thinking about the logistics. Driving up here and and having to back take two very special times out of you and those are Sunrise and Sunset , times when at the fag end of it you will find the crowd gone and you by yourself.
This Hotel also offers you complimentary Kayaking in the lake where it otherwise is 100 or 125 CAD an hour - if I remember.
Just plan for your food and may be pack it for the dinner from a town near by called Lake Louise. The food at the Moraine Lake Lodge is ridiculously costly and worst - no value for money. Straight No- at least from me.
Let me know if I can help mroe on it.
That's correct, all you need is to show your reservation when you drive past Lake Louise because they don't even let cars in after 11am when she he parking is full and it's a long hike in. Every room gets a parking and it's such a great experience and R&R. They only open for four months that's why the price is steep but the experience and all you can canoe with beautiful hiking trails are worth it!
The accommodation at the lodge is first class, and you are right at the lake, which as you say takes away the hassle of getting there and parking. Well worth the cost.
Agree with all previous comments. Not having to worry about parking is one benefit but being able to enjoy the lake before and after the crowds are gone is even more reason to stay at the lodge. We stayed two days - food was absolutely top notch, so were all of the staff, cabin was great, can't imagine staying anywhere else in that vicinity. During larch season, it pays to be right there at the start of the Larch Valley/Sentinel Pass trail.
Absolutely correct in your assumption. Even if they have closed traffic off at the turnoff onto the Moraine Lake Road, you tell them you have a reservation at the hotel, they wave you in & you drive straight to the hotel guest parking lot. The canoe usage is included in your hotel cost & you are given priority as a guest & can be out as long as you wish. It is also quite wonderful to stay there when all the other day tourist traffic departs & its quiet. Breakfast is included but although the restaurant is expensive, it's worth the splurge for dinner!
It's completely worth it. Not only do you save precious time trying to find that elusive parking spot (& it can literally take hours), but you have the lake all to yourself after the hordes leave and before they come back in the morning. Also, you are right at the trailhead for one of the best hikes in the Canadian Rockies - the Valley of the Ten Peaks.
Plus, the service there is excellent, the canoes are free to guests (normally $75/hr) and the cabins are beyond cozy.
Yes, it is a big advantage but I think that staying at the Lodge is an integral part of the experience. The place is even more wonderful when the crowds have gone home for the night. The restaurant is great and its hard to beat enjoying a raging fire in your cabin's fireplace.
That is very true..besides just enjoying the view and the tranquility of the lake you have no worries about parking. Too say the parking lot gets crowded is an understatement!!!!
We stayed 3 days and LOVED it!!!!!
I agree with the other comments - staying at Moraine Lake gives you substantial advantages.
When we went, the parking lot was filling up by 5:30am. We wished that we had decided to stay overnight because the lake was spectacular and the highlight of our trip. Staying over would have meant more time to enjoy it, and less stress about parking and waiting for a canoe rental etc. If you can afford it, I'm sure you wont regret it!
Thank you - that's just what I hoped. I'm not worried about tight spaces :)
We stayed for a night in June and it was fabulous and yes, you won't have to worry about the parking scrum!!! Service, location, facilities were just wonderful, would definitely splurge on this again!
The day we arrived, the access road was closed to all except guests at the hotel because it was all parked up so, yes, unless you want to get there very early, this is a good way to be assured of parking. The hotel car park is a little small and the spaces tight but you are right on the lake.
