Cabot Trail Questions & Answers

Ashdod, Israel

Hi there :),We would really appreciate some advice on the Cape Breton part of our trip to Eastern Canada. Apologize for the length of this, but i am really at my wits end on what to see and how to plan our route in Cape Breton which is part of a larger trip we are making this summer.

Would like to give a little background firstly.

We are lucky enough to have toured quite a few wonderful places in the world, and are always interested in experiencing new unique things to your specific areas in this case New Brunswick/Nova Scotia and Cabot Island.

We are planning a trip of just over a month this year around July 2016.

We start off in Newfoundland then sail 10 days along the coast of Newfoundland to Labrador - Torngat Ntnl Park - onward towards Greenland -

we then loop back to Toronto and fly to Halifax on the 12th July 2016 (arrive at noon pick up a car) we then have 11 nights (flying back to Toronto from Halifax) and would love to experience the highlights in New Brunswick/Nova scotia and Cabot Island.

We have read up on the area but i am finding it difficult to plan a route with travel times and areas to stay that would save us time (without having to loop back to where ever we are sleeping).

We are both people who very much enjoy the outdoors and who have no problem getting up early to experience a full day :) if there is something really spectacular have no problem driving to see it

Please bear in mind that i think by this time we will be full to the brim with landcapes/waterfalls and scenery so would really like to put an emphasis on the really unique things that we can't experience anywhere else in the world. We would really appreciate your input as locals regarding (for example) if you go to "a" you'd just be repeating yourselves by going to "b".

The things/places we really wouldn't want to miss are:

Perce Rock - looks absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopewell Rocks high and low tides - experiencing both

Tidal bore (i believe in truro but there are other places..)

Seeing wildlife - specially moose and whales

Whale watching - where would be a fantastic place to get up close and personal?

Experiencing the Ceilidhs with locals

Mikmak Culture - i believe on goat island?

Sydney - worlds largest fiddle

Kayak trip (shortish)

Sunsets

View of coastline from a boat perhaps?

Bike around (optional)

Please please please suggest a route and state that for example: you have to see "such and such" so give "such and such" a miss...

Hi Sharon,

What a great list you have started!

I'm not sure if you have your trip planned yet for July or not, but may I suggest the Silver Dart Lodge in Baddeck, Nova Scotia as a resource. They are situated on the Bras D'or Lakes and offer a "Cape Breton Treasure Hunt Guide" pointing out some hidden gems and local advice while in Cape Breton. They can also give you some advice on the must see attractions in much of Cape Breton.

I hope this helps, enjoy your vacation!

At the moment no answers sorry one thing that is guiding us on this leg of the trip is to pick and choose the "can't live without parts" - because of our time restrictions
