Hi. We are planning a trip to NS the last two weeks of September and would prefer to not book accommodations ahead of time, since we like the idea of spending as much time as we like at places we really like. We would prefer to wing it and find accommodations as we go. Will we find ourselves sleeping in our car?
Book ahead we drove the trail the first part of September and spent way to much time driving to find a place to stay. Past 2:00pm there are many no vacancy signs. So places have already shutdown for winter. We were for the most part disappointed as it was to be a highlight experience. To do it again (not likely) I would skip Meat Cove there are no facilities there.
We booked our places for the weekends and then winged it during the weekdays. Fall is a very popular time to see parts of Nova Scotia for the changing leaves and to drive the Cabot Trail so beware.
I would think not. The time that you are going is probably at the end of the tourist season - although cruise ships may still be going through. You will find accommodation - but possibly not what you would want.
