Hello I'm very interested in taking a tour to see the northern lights at the beginning of October this year, I'm traveling from United States and I'm wondering what's the best place to arrive to Canada? I was looking at Vancouver but I'm not sure how to get to Yukon from there.
Typical places to see Northern Lights in Canada are Whitehorse, Yellowknife and Churchill. From Vancouver, you can get to Whitehorse and Yellowknife. There is a rivalry between those two places. I went to Whitehorse as it had a bigger airport and probably easier to get in and out. It also has a bigger town, I think. Either place would be good.
As the others stated, its a flight north to Whitehorse from Vancouver. I stayed at the Goldrush Inn (Best Western) which was directly downtown Whitehorse. I could walk the main strip and downtown area. It was close to the airport. The Northern Tales excursion and tour company is located right in the hotel, so that may be a resource for you.
lew in to Vancouver, then took a short flight up to Whitehorse, as that's where we were staying. Plenty of hotels there also recommend Northern Lights Resort & Spa just outside - they will pick you up from airport.
