We are planning our 25th anniversary and we want to go see the northern lights at the end of July
There is nothing like the best time for aurora viewing, because all depends on solar activities and the aurora performances have nothing to do with temperatures or seasons on earth. If you are flexible in your time of travel, you might want to avoid a full moon phase, because the moonlight can take away some of the weaker aurora displays. The time period between 7 days before and after a new moon is considered ideal. The aurora viewing season extends from late August to mid April. Thank you!
I think the best viewing is between October through winter months until around March. But i suggest you check with the Aurora Borealis and Northern Lights tour group.. they are helpful in every way and will give you specific information. Happy Travels!
