From Downtown Vancouver, you would take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay (Nanaimo). The ferry ride is 1 hr, 35 min (sailing time), then by car it would be about 45 minutes north of Nanaimo. As previously stated in the other reply, I would think you would need to have a car, as the caves are actually about 15/20 minutes off the hiway near a little town called Bowser. Take the clothing recommendations on the tour seriously as well unless you want to get wet. It is really cool. One of those things that I cant believe I have lived on the island most of my life, but waited a long time to see.

Hi there

you definitely need a car! The caves are about 30min away from the highway on Vancouver Island. The ferry ride will take about 2h and you need to take one who stops at Nanaaimo. Use BC Ferries for further informations.

Also you better pre-book a tour. There is one or two caves which are open for public but I highly recommend the 3h tours for beginners or the longer ones for experimented cavers (with rope climbing and repelling...). You will need to bring adapted clothing and footwear as the caves have no walkways...

I am not sure about public transports to get there.

Hope you make it there! It was the thrill of a lifetime for me....

Best regards, Thomas

The ferry takes approx 90 minutes from Tswassen, but the caves are about 30-40 minutes drive away and down a long graveled road, so no public transport available a car is necessary, but at the end of the long narrow winding road it is all well worth while
