Would you recommend renting skis from the resort or in town of Fernie? If latter, any specific recommendations? Looking for mid-level equipment for my children....
The service is amazing at the rental shop in the hill. If you’re staying at Lizard Creek there’s one right by the ski out door. They are very exact and will find the perfect fit for your kids. They ask for their weight age and level of expertise. They’ll work the skis until your children are as comfortable as possible. It’s so much easier upon checkout. They also offer overnight repairs and tuning just in case you find yourself in need. This saves you a trip into town. I would 100% recommend the rental shop on the hill.
The equipment rentals are amazing here. They have a wide selection and are very exact. They have all sizes for your kids and they know how to fit them just right. I would recommend renting from here. It’s less of a hassle on checkout and easier if you need repairs.
You likely to get better information at the ski shops in town.
We rented at the base lodge. Tried in town the night before to have a jump on the morning. No such luck. Was told to go to base lodge. Think Gear Hub was one we tried.
We have never rented, but really like the Gear Hub on 1st Ave by the railway tracks for service and prices. They sell a bit of used equipment and clothing as well. Renting at the mountain might be more convenient though.
Rental staff at hill are great..you can pick up your rentals the day before around 3:30pm so you are ready to go the next day..
Hi Michael,
We just returned from Fernie yesterday and had an amazing two weeks. Fabulous conditions. We did not rent equipment while we were there, but there are a few considerations.
If you are renting for your kids, there is a telus ski program at the resort that includes equipment, lift passes and lessons all bundled together. This information is available on the RCR/ Fernie Website.
I believe you can rent mid-high end equipment on the hill. There is a rental company called Quest in Snow Creek Lodge as well. Renting on hill can be convenient if you want to trade in and try a different set up mid-stay.
My dad and sister went last month and they actually bought used in town more reasonable than renting. Something to consider... but then you have to have the time to look for equipment.
I apologize, as I am not familiar with the prices or types of equipment offered.
The town is less than 10 minutes away, so convenient if you have a vehicle.
If you are traveling with children, consider the Adventure Camps for lessons... great price and they are for three day blocks, Starting on Sundays or Wednesdays for either half or full days.
hope this helps. Have a super time on the slopes!
