It was my daughter and he new husband that had the misfortune to stay in this awful hotel. We booked a delux room at this hotel as a surprise short honeymoon weekend for them but when I phoned to pay (with the card used to book he room)while they were on their way, I was told the room had to be paid for on arrival by the occupants and it it was not possible for me to pay, I said I did not know if they would have enough money to pay for the room and their weekend but was told if they were unable to pay for the room they would not be given the room and I would be charged the full cost as a no show! After frantic phone calls to our daughter we were able to transfer the money to their account. When they got their room it was in terrible condition with paper peeling from the walls, the grout in the bathroom was black with dirt and the vent fan was thick with fluff and dust. They did complain while checking out that the room was not as expected and they were very disappointed. The managers comment was that they were there for 2 days and should have complained before checking out, what he did not say was that after a horrendous journey with train cancellations due to weather they arrived at 20.30 on the Sat night and just wanted to go out for a meal and had to leave at 08.30 Monday morning, so with only one day in Brighton wanted to make the most of their stay and not waste it arguing with the hotel. After complaining to the hotel then the parent company (accompanied by photos of the room and all the various faults) that the room was not of the standard we would expect from a 4 star hotel, we were told that the room was of the standard they expected. You have my commiserations for your choice!
