Bang on opening time is usually quiet. Also, somewhat perversely, lunch time. But with mobility issues I'd think opening time is your best bet.

It’s difficult to say. But I would guess when the schools go back after 3 September. I’m sure the staff will assist you if you let them know. The lifts are very good and the new wing and cafe are lovely.

We arrived at the museum after lunch and it was fairly quiet. At times I thought we were the only people in the museum.

If you go to the RA website you will find they make specific arrangements for people who are mobility impaired - in fact they appear to run out of hours tours with volunteers available - I would go to the RA and describe your challenges and see what happens - good luck and enjoy
