Any suggestions for the best way to get to Aachen for the Dom and Treasury 2 p.m. tours in English from Cologne and back to Cologne by 5 p.m. to our Viking River Cruise ship (in June)?
Hello , it will not work due to limited time , even by driving over speed limits and train is not a solution even with better time options.
It's really very easy to go there by train from the central station. There are trains to Aachen from Cologne very often. Especially the old town of Aachen worths seeing
Thanks for your guidance. Recalculating . . .
The train from Cologne to Aachen takes about an hour or hour and a half. At least on weekdays there are frequent trains. You can walk to the cathedral in about 15 minutes. So you could get there easily for 2:00. The question is whether you can back in time. Depending on the length of the tour, I'd say that would be a seriously close call.
Won't work, not enough time. Idea #1 you Could go earlier in the morning for a tour in another language just to see the throne and the sacristy with Charlemagne's bones and of course the other relics. You could also buy a book in English at the place where you buy the tickets. You could read up on it beforehand and then take photos on the tour after you pay the euro to the guards. Idea #2 Can you rebook the time or day of your cruise? Idea #3 Save Aachen for another trip; it's too spectacular to rush through.
