I have over 400 logged dives throughout the Caribbean but never got my advanced certification. (I have nitrox certification, also.) Will I be allowed to dive the Blue Hole with Blackbird Caye?
In response to my own question: No, you cannot dive the Blue Hole with Blackbird Caye Resort if you don't have Advanced certification. I asked the dive masters to watch me and they told the management that I was a very experienced diver who would not have any problems. I showed my log books (all 8 of them), "dog-eared" dives where I showed my competence in handling situations (ie. bad air, assisting a diver out of air, and all dives over 100'), and had a referral from the dive shop that I usually dive with. The decision was made by the owner who did not want to bend the rules for one diver. I still say, Advanced certification does not make you a better diver, only a diver that has gone through the course. Bottom line, I an now getting my Advanced so I don't miss another bucket list opportunity.
I have a feeling if you talk to the dive instructors, and show them your skill set, you'd be allowed to do the blue hole. the people that went had some great gopro footage of reef sharks. go to youtube and search Belize scuba diving blue hole 2014, the blue hole dive starts around 5 min
I'm not sure. There was a couple in our group that worked on and obtained Advanced Open Water prior to the Blue Hole Dive, so I assume Advanced Open Water certification is required. Check with Blackbird Caye Resort to be sure. It was the deepest dive I had been on. We were required to do a deep dive the day before.
They usually do the Blue Hole dives on Tuesdays. Yes you'd be allowed to dive there as long as they had a boat heading there with a group.
On our trip we decided not to do the Blue Hole because apparently other than the notch in the dive belt saying you've done it there apparently isn't anything to see there. Instead we elected to dive near the hole at some of the other (amazing) marine parks.
I don't feel that I missed anything by not diving there.
Sure you can. This place was great although we did not scuba only snorkeled this trip you will find the personnel to be most helpful for either the diving or the snorkeling. Go and have fun.
