Hotel Las Americas Questions & Answers

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

In booking I see and understand the 22% tax, although quite high. But now there is also an additional 10% "service fee" that is not explained. Thirty three percent on top of the room charge is quite a bit. Holiday Inn nor Intercontinental in Guatemala does not show this additional "service charge". Can you explain what it is for and why the need to charge this if no other ihg hotel is charging this?

I regretfully do not have an answer to your question. Actually, I was not even aware of it. You can call the hotel directly and they will inform you of the reason for the additional fee.

The 22% is sales tax (VAT) and the 10% is tourisme tax. I just checked the bill and reservation of my stay in May.

Sorry, I'm not sure about the extra 10%. The 22% is normal for the entire country. I believe it is 11% tourism tax and 11% sales tax or something very similar to that.

I'm not sure but I made my reservation through xpedia and the price displayed was what was billed. No additional charge.
